Replacement Control Panel.....
« on: January 21, 2004, 06:00:24 pm »
Hi,
Not sure if I am will be using the correct terminology....But here it goes.

The control panel for my cabinet is hinged on the cabinet, and is attached to a Piece of particle board that can be pulled out, this particle board is where the Game board rests. (not sure what this type of setup is called, but It is pretty standard).

The Control panel is metal kind of V shaped, and is configured with two Joys and 14 buttons.  (6 buttons per player, plus player 1 and 2 start)
Looks something like this

I would like to add a Track ball to my Panel. There seems to be room in the center, but need to move the Joysticks and buttons to the sides.

Here come the questions....

Can you buy a replacement control panel that would include a track ball.
Where can you buy blank (no holes) control panels that can be used for this.
How do you make holes in metal?

Is it easier to make a Wood Replacement?

Thanks

It sounds like you have a Dynamo cabinet (I only say that because I have one as well) with that hinged metal CP that clips on from underneath it.  From my experience, I don't think they make replacements for it that are any different than the original - I think you'd have to make your own.

I had thought about making another one from wood, and mounting some brackets/braces to hold the new control panel, and it didn't look too difficult.  But then I decided that I wanted to get the entire cabinet working first, and maybe work out a new CP at a later date.  :)

If you do hear anything about a replacement for these Dynamo style, please share with us!

If you want to make one from wood, Justin did something simular on his Centipede control panel:

It is a dynamo cabinet. Good catch. did not know this type of control panel was specific for Dynamo cabinets
