Anyone running a Steam Link in a cab?
« on: November 23, 2016, 11:08:40 am »
Amazon has the steam link on sale for $20.
https://www.amazon.com/Steam-Link/dp/B016XBGWAQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1479917162&sr=8-2&keywords=steam+link

I have one, but haven't experimented with it other than setting it up and making sure the steam games work with an xbox 360 pad.
I've been meaning to try it with a racing wheel.  I've read that it works with the G27, but am curious if full directional ffb is fully supported.

I know there are ways to incorporate other games and emulators into Steam's big picture mode.
Anyone ever try to run a cab on a Steam Link and skip having a PC in the cab altogether?

I do not have a steam link.
but I have an older big-ass SLI quad-core duo monster in my living room and and a steam controller.
Looks like i'm going to have a steam link soon though.

On a side note dolphin emulator on a PC running steam launches fine either directly or with a front end like attract mode.

I have been working on installing  a pre set-up hyperspin hard drive and I noticed it had a file called steam link. I wonder what that is all about? :dunno

I don't know what a steam like would do for hyperspin. :dizzy:
They treated me like an animal and that's what I became.

Steam can already stream to other Steam installs in the house. I have personally only found it to be playable with turn based games.

Not in a cab, but awhile back I tried using Hyperspin through Steam Link, wouldn't recognize my 360 gamepads but didn't spend much time trying to figure it out.
Instead I just added a few roms in Steam using Ice(which is pretty cool), pulls down a pic and shows up in the library.

I just received mine yesterday.
I noticed no lag when playing injustice gods among us.
did you have it wired or using wireless?
how string is your host PC & video card?

I did not try to run an emulator though as i don't have any installed on my main PC.
Will try mame this week though.

Yeah.
That's why.
they have wireless on the thing but it makes for a crappy experience from what i've seen on the steamlink forums so i didn't even try.
I ran ethernet to my TV for media streamers and other devices.

Plain old Steam streaming on a PC is a lot laggier to me than Steam Link.

My Steam Link is connected wirelessly on an 802.11ac network and its nearly flawless, I forget I'm even streaming and can play games like Witcher 3 all night on it.

Streaming to another PC running Steam on Windows is noticeably laggier, even though the client and host PCs are connected to eachother on a switch via gigabit Ethernet.

I just picked one up on special for $20.  For what I have read WiFi is not very good and there is a lot of stutter and odd screen resolution like 720p.  I have the Home-plug, and I would like to know how the quality of streaming on a 150mb unit.  I know it depends on how the house is wired, but there is not many reviews with the home-plug and the Steam Link.
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.
