Connect a PS4 to a CRT TriSync Monitor for SFV?
« on: November 06, 2016, 02:18:16 pm »
In general, is it possible to connect a PlayStation 4 to a candy cab running a trisync monitor via a VGA connector and run Street Fighter 5 (potentially scaled down with a converter box to 640x480 mode)? I realize the format of SFV is letterbox, so best case scenario there would probably be black bars at the top and bottom.

If there are any specific adapters you would recommend, I am interested.

I run Ultra SFIV through an XBOX 360 at 640x480 and think it looks great on a CRT as the edges are softened. I realize conversion would probably need to take place to configure with a PS4 though, but just looking for input.

Thanks

Not sure about ps4, but you can run street fighter 5 at 640x480 interlaced on windows pc outputting 15khz. Steam has big box mode too.

If I were to run it off of a PC, I could get by with a pretty low end graphics card at 640x480 correct? Would something like an ATI 6000 series perform well enough do you think?

Is 640x480 interlaced one of the standard options in SFV? Or do I need to configure the PC to output 15khz? My monitor can do 31khz as well.

My candy cab joysticks are already configured with XBOX 360 controller hacks so I'd assume I could plug them in to my PC and use them.

The newer Streetfighter games aren't actually native widescreen at all. They will run in 640x480 right out of the box.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

Would you think using a PC rather than a PS4 will be a better solution? I currently don't have a PS4.

Hoping my ATI HD 6000 series card can could play the game at a 640x480 setting.

You would need to install crt_emudriver as well as use a suitable radeon card to do 640x480i, though with a trisync monitor that may not be necessary to get 480p (though using emudriver can still open a lot of 15khz resolution possibilities with mame.)

Glad to hear that SFV pc has a 640x480 mode, means it could be on the list for my crt fighter cab...

I can't speak to performance but running it at the lower resolution can only help framerate.
