Native resolutions, emulator choices
« on: October 23, 2016, 06:21:37 pm »
I have my setup working about as well as it can on my old CRT with groovymame (which is seamless, thanks for all the work) and retroarch using genesis, nes and snes (not quite so seamless, but I think the issue is working around the front end).

My question is, are there any other emulators that can use switchres?  Beyond 16-bit, it seems that there is more variability in the resolutions that consoles can display- for example, games use x224, x240, x320 and x480 on the playstation.  As far as I know, I can't use an emulator-specific config through mednafen (included in retroarch) to cover all of these different vertical resolutions, and it becomes a bit of a hassle to find the native resolution displayed by all games (during gameplay, at least) to make game-specific configs.

Can anybody recommend a resolution setup that covers a majority of the games for:

PSX; N64; Dreamcast; PS2; Gamecube; TurboGrafx?

If anybody is looking to adjust their retroarch config for snes/genesis: I am currently using 2560x224 for snes/genesis with different aspect ratios for my particular screen, which gets me very close to pixel perfect (at least on the snes, which I have hooked up to compare).  I think my snes settings are the closest with an aspect ratio at 10; genesis is at 14 and both sides are slightly cutoff.  Once I hook up my genesis to compare I can further fine tune that aspect ratio, but I'm close enough to not be concerned.
