Sky Soldiers and Last Duel in Tempest cabs?
« on: October 23, 2016, 01:15:55 am »
Two listings that look like Tempest conversions just popped up on my local CL and I thought it was odd, they look like operator conversions and not owner hacks. One's a Capcom Sky Soldiers and the other is an SNK Last Duel. Anyone know if Tempests were commonly converted or am I ID'ing these cabs wrong? If you look at the pic the Last Duel comes with a Tempest manual.

Tempest cabinets were not commonly converted to anything since it required buying a new monitor. They do crop up from time to time though.

Do not buy stuff like this and try to convert it back. If you do then somewhere else someone will part out and torch a perfectly good non-converted color vector game to provide the parts you need. Meaning the world doesn't gain another Tempest, it just looses an original one and gains one that got converted and then converted back again. Except it is a little worse than that, part hoarders and dreamers will suck up a few of those parts and make sure they never go into a machine again. That means for every 8 or so games like this that get "restored", 10 original ones will get trashed to provide the parts.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

I've got the perfect plan.

Thanks for the info. No thoughts of converting, just curious about the origins, odd to see two pop up in the same week from different sellers.
