LED set up for behind reject buttons
« on: October 17, 2016, 11:23:24 am »
So I spent approx. an hour the other night attempting to rig up two LEDs for my reject buttons. I have some experience with wiring LEDs in my miniature hobby, but ran into an issue. You guys will hate me because I have no clue what wattage the LEDs are as I sorted them in my organizer and threw out the packages long ago. Anyhow, I had a 5v wall wart that I wanted to wire them to so when I fire up my power strip, the LEDs will come on.

I "dry fit" the LEDs to the wall wart, and both lights (white) lit up nice and strong. I wired them in series. Awesome! So I set about the task of soldering/taping everything up, and warmed up the hot glue gun. Added a dollop to each bulb, and held them in place on the reject buttons. I plugged in the wall wart, and they lit up nice....for like 2 seconds. Then the second LED(on the right reject button), went considerably dim, while the first one was still bright.

Wondering if maybe my connection wasn't so great on the second LED? Would I have a dip in power on the second one? I tried a 10v wart, and that blew them both...haha.

Any "standard" setups I can try versus trial and error? What do you guys use?

I should add that I am not using the coin door for coins....lol, so there are no sockets/hookups.

a few things here
is this walwart ac at 5v ?
or dc at 5 v ?
also why not just wire in 2 dropping resistors
about 330 ohm will do or less like 220 ohm -both 1/2 or 1/4 watt
it just sounds to me like the walwart was putting out 5volt (ac) and not (dc)
but the dropping resistors would not hurt at all

5v DC

I have some resistors, but it's been so long since I've had to use them. I will double check what I have, but I believe I have 1/4 watt.
