  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
First off I want to say hello and greetings from ASSEMbler Games, Sonic Retro, and the Neo Geo forums. Of which I'm most active on ASSEMbler. I come here as a new member looking for some help and info from those of you who have been in the scene much longer than I. I come from having a Neo Geo MVS supergun setup, then having health issues get in the way, forcing me to sell my MVS and my PVM. I'm now getting back into the swing of things as far as gaming goes, and I've recently bought something that might just be a very good deal.

The full story: I recently got an X-Arcade on trade. All well and good of course, it's the two player model, not tankstick, but still a nice unit. I know the hardware in it is close to garbage as it's just mere clones of what went into US cabs. A friend of mine on the ASSEMbler Games forum showed me a listing, which seemed to have original Wico Conical sticks, as well as what could be the original buttons used in the first run cabs back in the day. I've already purchased it with intentions of refurbishing the parts and using them in the X-Arcade. Here are some pictures: http://imgur.com/a/7tY4Y

Please let me know what you guys think. To me they look like legitimate Wico Conical sticks with the upgraded actuator. I can't find any of these sticks for sale in Red anywhere. A value would be nice when they've been refurbished. I plan on adding Cherry D44X switches to everything in the X-Arcade, including the sticks. I also plan on using the buttons if they are indeed the original article from the first run Street Fighter II cabs. Thanks much ArcadeControls community.

Welcome!

That's a horrible button layout, which makes me think its a conversion cab. I cant say for sure what sticks those are.

The stuff in your XArcade is infinitely better than some blown out old crap from a SF2 conversion.

I plan on refurbishing everything. I've been repairing and reviving consoles and the like for more than a couple years now, and know my way around arcade wiring as well. Gonna throw a full set of Cherry D44X switches on everything and I would think that's an upside better than X-Arcade junk.

Just for sake of conversation. These sticks are seemingly, according to research on this very forum and others, the original and exact same sticks used in the first run of SF2 cabs and Neo Geo MVS cabs, although in the MVS cabs the actuators were worse than this. Surprised that there isn't more talk about the Wico Conical sticks here. Seems to me it's a sought after and valueable vintage joystick from that era of arcade gaming.

I'm sure there are people that would go hand bananas for some Wico Conical sticks but I'm also sure there's more that can play SFII just fine with some happ comps. The hardcore fighting game crowd will tell you that the Sanwa or Seimitsu Japanese joysticks are the best.

Personally? I think the red sticks are fugly.

As for value, I cant even take an educated guess. Been on these boards for like 15 years and don't distinctly remember anyone looking specifically for Conicals.

Eh, no more than $10-20 for all that stuff.
