Pole Position works great PPII has shifter inverted. Help??
« on: October 11, 2016, 08:09:31 pm »
Using racermame160. I added the toggle="no" to polepos.cfg and polepos2.cfg. Pole position works as expected, but PPII has the shifter inverted. I tried setting geartype to 1 in the mame/ppII .ini file and MAME reports back an "unknown option geartype". Any ideas?

Geartype is a RacerMAME 0.106 option, not 0.160.

I didn't mess with pole position driver (not the input part at least), so the reverse handling of the shifter comes from the factory or is a "bug" in the code

To save money, the games that had a hi/lo shifter usually only had a switch on one side.
It wasn't always consistent as to whether the switch was on the hi or lo side.

Most people who MAME cabs with this type of shifter end up adding a second switch for the other gear (so both gears have switches)
or they wire an extra input to the normally closed tab on the current switch.
Doing it the second way results in one or the other contact being closed at all times, so you'd have to disconnect it or add an on/off switch to break the connection while mapping other controls.

There is probably a way to change it in the code, but I've never looked into it.

I guess if it was a big enough deal I could wire in a toggle to switch the shifter, but I think I'll just leave it as-is since the other games all work fine so far.

Pole position 2 works as well as it is, the only thing is you must put your gear in the lo position to get the hi gear...
