Lethal enforcers/gun fighters 2 cab mame-able?
« on: October 04, 2016, 11:09:40 am »
Ok I'm sure in gonna get blasted for blasphemous remarks but here goes

I can grab a lethal enforcers /gun fighters 2 cab with a dead tube and wondering if it would be possible to use that cabinet and the guns for a mame setup for all of our favourite shooters after I fix/replace the tube.

I dontwant to  hack the cabinet I would want to be able run the original pcb side by side with a mame and to return it to its original state for resale some day, but can I get what's there to work side by side with a mame setup as well? Are the guns compatible with a mame setup without modification?

Not sure about the Guns but assuming it runs from a Jamma board you could use a J-pac to convert it to PC.

Might this come down to needing a driver for the guns?

I was hoping for a quick answer as the window of opportunity to pick up this cabinet is limited. Upon a little more digging into the forums it seems I would need other guns for the mame side of things. Not sure if a mame gun would work well with mirrored cabinets

I also haven't seen any current conversation on this so wondering if any progress has been Made getting Happ optical guns working properly with mame

Not easy at all buddy. If you want to use the guns you need a very hard to find part to mate up optical guns, a PC, and a CRT. There is a reason that this isn't more common and folks go with the aim track setup from ultimarc.

Looks like the usb2gun board from Global VR

Yea looks like a really involved process.

You'd need the CRT to be working and a hard to find USB2Gun interface like Jollywest used:

I've gathered some useful links here in case we ever get a Gun subforum or I feel like trying to write a guide.

Titch this is 100% your fault

But $225 CDN is hard to pass up.  I will be starting a restoration thread at some point.  The crt comes to life but it didn't boot. They guy who sold it to me said it was working great up to a couple weeks ago and is working intermittently now.  I've yet to see it work but just finished the 7 hr round trip to pick it up and dont have time for it for a while

I'll be keeping my eye out for an original lethal enforcers 1 pcb too if anybody out there has one Laying around

Lethal Enforcers 1 comes up for sale quite often on KLOV and for quite an affordable price.

So if you were to MAME that cabinet, it is possible but you're looking at a whole lot of effort. Firstly, stay away from the Aimtrak guns. IMO, they don't compare to the CRT guns of old. You can begin your patient search for the Actlabs guns, but be prepared for a long wait and a high premium. Two of those guns will likely cost you as much as you paid for that cab. The other solution is to use Guncon2 guns with Win2Gun drivers. Keep in mind that you are about 10 years late to the party for CRT gun gamine via MAME. That means you will need to use software and an OS from that era. You are looking at Windows XP 32-bit. Check this older thread I started here on the same subject. Should be able to get you started should you decide to go down the MAME path for light gun gaming.

I had much of the same intentions that you have since I have now. Build a one stop shop MAME cab complete with light guns. But somehow I stumbled upon a ton of CRT cabs for a good price and have been picking up PCB's since. I did manage to pick up a pair of Act Labs guns. But the feel like a novelty compared to my Happ arcade guns.
When you find great deals on Craigslist for CRT based cabs, exuberance :laugh2: can be a bad thing!
