Hagstrom Ke72- on new motherboard (No ps2 ports)
« on: October 02, 2016, 01:35:45 am »
I just built a new mame pc and in my haste it seems my new Motherboard has no PS2 ports for my encoder. Anybody use one of these encoders with a USB to PS2 adapter?

Ok Just to follow up my own question, they do not work with the USB to PS2 adapters as far as I can tell, i have 2 different ones and both just cycle titles (HYPERSPIN SETUP).  I used a keyboard tester and it all works great, joysticks hit correct buttons, no stuck keys etc.. but run hyperspin and hit a joystick, whacked out..  The encoder and setup worked fine on old machine (it died, PSU issues) so i upgraded.

SO if anybody still reading, is there an encoder that uses the same pin outs the hagstrom used ( 40 pin ide )? I really hate to rewire the whole dang thing since its all wired to two IDE 40 pin convectors that just plug in (i swapped control panels at one time and this was an easy solution before all the USB  encoders came out).

Sounds like a Hyperspin issue, not hardware.  I'd maybe ask over on their forums, might have better luck.

And yes it seems the problem is common, it has joysticks enabled , once that was shut off it seemed to work great till i rapid fired a few StreetFighter moves sticky keys came up, crashed hyperspin and now i have no task bar. I rebooted but win 10 had updates (brand new machine I started about a month ago, first time its been on and networked since then).  Sticky keys seems to be an issue now, time for more reading.

Oh, that's your problem. Windows 10.

What version of Hyperspin are you using?  I recall that Hyperspin used to have this issue with joysticks in the menu, but it was fixed in the latest release.  You sire, probably need to update Hyperspin.  My hunch is that you are using your old version with the new computer.

What I would do:  Download the latest Hyperspin and Rocket Launcher and try running it with the default stuff (don't bother importing your artwork or anything).  If it works then I would begin migrating your stuff over.  If it doesn't than that isn't the problem.

thanks for more suggestions, no sticky keys and a reboot and all is well again. Yes its a version of Hyperspin from 2 maybe 3 years ago. Took forever to get it all set up, movies, 30-40 systems, art.. I am not to interested in doing it again. I may have to but as of right now its all working fine.  Just new system teething pains i guess.  Yes Win 10 is .. well win 10..

Now to get my skills back up in Streetfighter II.. age really sucks, I took 2nd in my local towns SFII tournament in the 90's now i cant beat ryu or ken if get them late in the game.. damn dragon punch that covers 1/4 of the screen.

What Ps2 to USB converter did you use?  I have tried one from Monoprice and it works for about 15 keystrokes when you first plug it in and then it quits registering any more keys.
