It seems like a small difference (~200 on the first screen is as high/low as I've gotten) but it could matter for some of you hardcore types!

Not really. If you want to get a high score, you have to collect the extras without dying. By collecting 30 extras you make 10.000+20.000+30.000+40.000+50.000=150.000 bonus, plus about 40-50k for going through the first loop. After that, it will be much harder to collect the extras. So basically, it comes down to make as many points as you can on one life.

That is rather impressive!!

Can't even match my previous score, let alone get near this.

126490.

I didn't bother screenies yesterday because I know I'll have a better one.  Problem was a few games after my ~100k ish, my eyes started glazing over and the music started boring its way through my eardrums deep into my brain where it continues to haunt my dreams.

Still not totally sure what variables go into your score for a screen but definitely know that jumping off the screen on the first screen can make a difference... it *seems* that triggering the screen scroll higher gives a few more.  I dunno, but I'm jumping off every screen for good measure.

Now if I could stop walking off ledges trying to trigger those hard-to-reach bonuses I could maybe string together a good run.  My brain and fingers really suck at those long jumps in 20+ though.

That pesky bonus system tho: my last run I was basically one stupid mistake away from probably 180-200k ish.  I play this game like Gradius: keep rollin' until I die once then hit reset in disgust.

Also learned that scrolling off the keyboard to the left equals entering your name, so you can officially call me C!

Trying to move your character off screen to the left kills you too, talk about extreme ratchet scrolling!

Finally broke the 200K mark -- but can't seem to make anymore progress as the 24th level(IIRC) keeps taking all my lives - can't get the timing right on those 3 birds and it's hard to practice it when it takes so long just to get there from the beginning each time.

Another min-max type thang:

Since your 'base' score seems to be based on primarily how far you make it across the stage on the X-axis and your bonus pickup skips the rest of the stage, bypassing a 6th pickup then going back for it can eke out some more pointage.  Pretty sure nobody in the world will dedicate enough time to this game for these strats to matter but it's at least worth noting.

New: 159480.  I might be done with this one.  It was a lot of fun earlier but it's not doing it for me.  I'd like to get through loop 1 but we'll see.

That's level 25. Actually pretty easy. When the level starts, move closer to the edge of the platform, don't jump. Wait until the upper bird is at the position shown in the pic or maybe a teensy bit more near you. Make 3 quick jumps. Wait till the upper bird has passed you (doesn't take long), then make the final 2 jumps.

I actually just figured out that strat about ten minutes ago... it feels dirty to make that third jump, seems like you're rushing it but it makes the level easy.

Honestly, if I could figure out how to consistently make the long jumps on those bastard screens that start @20, my score would skyrocket.

Yep, those are the ones that I consistently manage to fudge up. One mistimed jump, gone is the 40k / 50k bonus, restart.

Hear, hear.  It's kinda rare I think to find a game like this where I legitimately think with just a *fewwwww* tiny tweaks it could've ended up being a classic or at least a significant success, but without those tweaks it's just... meh.  Kinda ok.

Sooooooo close.  But hey it kept me busy for a few hours this week!

True!

Such a silly thing screws up a otherwise excellent little game.
