Guide to: Installing Aimtrack inside Guncon NPC-103
« on: November 16, 2009, 08:53:16 pm »
I'm about to document my steps installing the Aimtrack inside the
Guncon:

Here is the Untouched product:

To get started only 7 screws need to be removed.

I could not get a real good close up so the red dots just represent aprox
screw holes.

WARNING
Do not remove screws from the other side these are decorative screws only!
I found out the Hard way. Be sure that screws you are trying to remove
are actual screws. There are decorative screws on both sides.

My pics are not coming out very clear I need a room with more light and a better camera!

Stay tuned...

Ok didn't have a better camera but managed to get a little more light.
( Hope the quality isn't too bad )

Here is the fist view inside the guncon

As you can see plenty of room for the Aimtrack after we take out that lens.
Go ahead take it out and toss it away or put it up with Guncon parts
we will be discarding.

We will be using the existing buttons and the mini-board that operates them so lets go ahead and clip that wire.

Pull The Main guncon board out enough you can clip the 2 black wires.
( I recomend cutting close to board to leave a little slack. )

Now we can Complely remove the Guncon Board and Controller wire.

This is what we should now be looking at:

We should have the mini board for the buttons with 2 red wires and 2
white wires.

At the Top we have the mini board for the trigger with 2 small black wires.

.... More to come!

 That is a good question...
Can everyone else see these pics?

I have tried in Firefox, Internet Explorer, And Off by One
browser. I could see the images here in all browsers.

I'm sure you allready tried this.. but to be on the safe side:
Did you refresh the page?
Maybe you caught it when I was updating?

I did do a lot of that.

Someone please let me know before I get to far into this!

I actually was reading this post at work and couldn't see the pictures.  I am home now and I can see the pictures.  For those who can't, can you click on Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, and then scroll down to Multimedia and make sure "Show pictures" is checked off.  Then close IE and reopen it.

Hmmm...  I can't actually get to the forums with IE for whatever reason (it's probably because of the way work has things set up) but Firefox won't display the images.  I can see that there are some there in the source, but nothing shows up in my browser.  This is the only thread I can't see them in too...weird.   :hissy:

EDIT - A little more info I guess.  I am looking at the page info dialog in Firefox and all of the images hosted at bayimg.com are grayed out and italicized. For whatever reason I can't get to them.
AHHHH, I figured it out.  bayimg.com is blocked by work.   :dunno

 OK continuing on...
( I hope everyone can see these pics.)

Here is a pic of all the Aimtrack parts

I didn't like the size of the include usb extension cable.
I went with a 3 meter instead of the default 2.5.

You will notice I had to purchase one of those mini adapter to
plug into the Aimtrack. It came in a pack of assorted mini - usb adapters.

Also I decided against doing any soldering to make troubleshooting easier.

I used terminals blocks ( is that what they call them? )
they come in a strip you can break off what you need.

I did have to do a minor bit of dremeling. I found the Aimtrack would
sit perfectly center in the original lens cavity.
However The lens cavity had to be dremeled square usung the lowest
part of the lens cavity as a base and dremmel the sides square.
I repeated this for both halves of the gun.
I also dremmeled the out edge off the end of barrel as shown.

That bring us to here:

Here is a better breakdown of what hooks where:

I hot glued all the terminal blocks and the part where the usb extension
joins. This made it very stable however the front of board towards the tip
of the gun was not laying flat and trying to stick up.
I used some cutup pieces of pipe insulation to snug the area above
the board and top of gun Cavity.

I used a cut out piece of a CD spindle case for a lens cover It looks
Great and works perfect!

Here is a close up of the lens:

This is the lens installed and the conclusion
of my Aimtrack/Guncon installation!

( I might go back and post some pics of my sensor bar when I'm happy with
the look of it.)

Some pics didn't turn out the greatest. Though working with a webcam
and holding the cam with one hand and snapping the pic with the other
well you get the picture....

Any question feel free to ask.

I did forget to mention that button 3 was addon.
I had to solder into the Aimtrak module to get that button!

I recommend making a trip to Radio Shack and buying one of these:

Then After I could see the tiny pins I got a small needle and heated it up
with my solder iron and pushed the pin through. I learned this the hard way!

I pulled traces off the board on the first gun because the soldering iron got it
to hot and up it came.

However I did manged to get another solder point on gun 1.
Despite me slightly Fubing up my first gun....

It still works!

** I added yet a even more detailed pic. You can match The T1, T2, A1, A2
from Guncon to the points I detailed on this pic!

Enjoy  ;)

Sorry about the necro.
This seems to be the only in depth guide I could find about putting Aimtraks inside a NPC-103.
I'm more of a visual learner and was wondering if anyone has the original images or someone make a new guide. (A full on one stop aimtrak module sticky would be better to see what others have used / done.)
Thank you.
