Trying to identify an 80s arcade game.
« on: July 18, 2016, 05:02:51 pm »
So there was an arcade game I found at Magic Mountain one time ... only saw it once. Played it there, had a lot of fun with it ... never saw it again, anywhere.

For years have been trying to find any sign of it, no luck.

It was probably somewhere around 1982-1984 (I think I saw Robotron for the first time during the same visit, but I'm not sure).

It was a wild west-style video game. Not sure if you were a good guy or a bad guy, but you fought others on and off an old steam train. I've found a couple of games along these lines, but they're all horizontal scrollers, and I am almost certain this game was a vertical scroller.

Wild Western looks familiar, except from what I've seen, it is only played -around- the train, but I am almost certain this had you also fighting -on- the train.

Sound familiar to anyone?

I have Gunsmoke and Western Express on the top of my head... not sure if either one is even close...

Was also thinking Wild Western by Taito possibly but you mention it not being it - perhaps a couple years later than you though might be Western Express by Data East :

I suppose it is possible (hard to say with certainty after some 30+ years) it is Western Express, but that game is not vertical, and I am almost certain I remember 'rounds' or 'levels' inside the train, rather than on top ... but I have to admit, it is very close to what I would expect it to be, after all this time.

Likely not "definitive" but here is a list that might provide a good starting point...

So at this point, my best guess would be Wild Western ... no telling for sure, though. Just been too long since I saw the game.
