ipac 4 (2008) input and PS/2 programming issues
« on: July 09, 2016, 11:59:22 am »
my friend has a 4 player cabinet that we built in 2008.  it has an ipac 4 connected via PS/2 interface.    the other day, we noticed that the p4sw2 input isn't working at all.  i replaced the switch and wiring with known good ones but it still does not register anything.  i opened the winipac software, and it shows that it is assigned to the letter E, but yet it does not register anything....it appears as if the input is just dead.

i'm not sure there is anything I can do about that.  my short term solution was to just map p4sw5 (which is currently unused) to the same letter and just rewire the button to the new input.   The problem is, when i go to reprogram the ipac, it gives me an error loading the driver and just never works.

i vaguely remember having an issue like this when we first set it up, but that was so long ago and on a different computer, i don't remember what we did to get it to work.  It is connected to the PS/2 interface, i've tried it both with and without a ps2 keyboard in the passthrough port.

any suggestions?

No specific suggestions, but you do need to have a keyboard plugged into the passthrough in order to program assignments.

The software version of the WinIPAC utility I use successfully with my older IPAC4 is 2.0.0.8

Another thing is the programming mode. At the beginning of operation, WinIpac should ask you whether your controller is basically a legacy Ipac or newer version. Yours is probably legacy, and would require that mode.
