Where's a good place to have CP artwork printed AND LAMINATED?
« on: January 18, 2004, 01:02:42 am »
I've heard good things about both http://www.classicarcadegrafix.com/ and http://www.emdkay.net/, and I wouldn't hesitate to use either of them for printing.  BUT...I want to have my custom-made control panel overlay laminated as well, and I don't see that either of them offer this service.  This leaves me with local Kinkos-type places, which can be kind of a mixed bag.

So...any ideas on a good shop (online or brick-and-mortar) that does high-quality printing AND laminating?

I was under the impression that Classic Arcade Grafix also laminated their artwork, but indeed it doesn't say so explicitly on their FAQ. Marquees and Bezels are mentioned to be laminated and in the bit about CPO's it says "The control panel overlays(CPO's) we provide are on self adhesive vinyl and have a textured feel to duplicate the feel of the original panels" and the line below they say it can be used in a commerical environment. I guessed the textured feel came from the laminate.

Maybe an e-mail would explain things. Or maybe the people on the thread about them know.

Many of the self adhesive vinyls don't need to be laminated. They are designed for outdoor use without laminate.

I had some stuff laminated by a local place and didn't like it. It was to thick. I think it would be great for a control panel but it was to thick for side art.
My statements are my own opinions. They have the value that the reader gives them. My opinion of my opinion varies between foolish and brilliant and these opinions often change with new information.

You know, the more I think of it, maybe laminating the CP would make cutting out the button/joystick/trackball holes too much of a pain in the arse.  Hmm.  I'll email Classic Arcade Grafix and see what they suggest.

Thanks everyone!

Laminate it all!! heh heh.  It's so much shinier. And waterproof.  Anyway you can always have it printed at one place and laminated at another, just make sure they test the laminator first before they run your artwork through.

Instead of a laminate, maybe a piece of Plex or Lexan over the CP would fit the bill?

If you know anyone who works in aschool you can probably get your artwork laminated free, as most schools have large laminators. I know I've taken advantage of the one available at my wife's school on many occasions.

I saw a roll of bookcover pastics at a local office supplies shop. Would that stuff do as a cheap laminate? I used it (when I was young) to protect my schoolbooks.
