  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
I'm buying G27/29 or something else and was going to mount it to a pedestal cabinet when I want to use it, I'm sure it will be enjoyable but it can't compare to actually playing in the driving seating position.

One of the benefits of a pedestal is that I can easily push it out of the way, Is there one of these racing seats that you attach your G27 or whatever and then plug in to your cabinet?

Is there a specific model that most people agree on is the best to get in terms of value and functionality? I think it would be a great addition to a game room.

I'll try and answer my own question since I've found out much more info since posting.

Both Playseat and Open wheeler seem pretty flimsy, lots of moving of components while playing, like the steering wheel holder isn't solid, an neither is the foot rest, but both have folding seats and can be put away.‎

The Playseat Evolution would probably be my pick between the two, has some more adjustable options, including the foot rest.

I also learned about the Obutto rigs, The Obutto Ozone seems to be a very solid unit, no comparison to the Playseat and Open wheeer, nothing moves but looks less sporty and doesn't look like it gets compact, it is also comparable in price, works well as a work desk as well.

I'm leaning towards the Obutto.‎

I was considering one of these jegs racing seats for my build.

I think I'm between the Obutto Ozone and Pagnanini ‎
Next Level Racing GTUltimate V2 , it is so modular, you can use it as a stand only.

It's within my price range, both the Pagnian and and Obutto seem to offer much better stability, value, workmanship compared to the Playseat.

I would check out some of the sim racing forums as they would likely do full, in depth reviews of the different seats.

I'm sure this is the one now :)

This is a great video showing you how rock solid it is, but I won't be investing in the motion feature, nor a Keyboard attachment, or monitor stand.

I'll push it off to the side and just pull it out when I want to use it and I will move my pedestal out of the way, another advantage of a pedestal.

About $700 shipped without motion.

If want the most for your money, consider getting a real car seat from a junk yard.  You can get something much more comfortable for the same price or less.

A driving cab for $350, I would be interested in that.

Was Griff-Richer a term you coined? no love from google, shows up arcadecontrols though.

So you're going to sit with your butt 12 inches off the floor and play racing games while looking at a tv mounted how high on the wall?

Neph coined the term Griff-richer, the late Louis Tully made it famous. But it is a BYOAC thing.

So you're going to sit with your butt 12 inches off the floor and play racing games while looking at a tv mounted how high on the wall?

Funny, because my friend made the same observation. The TV would be mounted above the Pedestal, so I guess that's pretty high. You think it will ruin the experience? I'm not even 100% I would do the cheaper version of the sim rig, it's just pretty cool and nice than standing at a Pedestal to play racing games.

I guess I could get the monitor stand add-on for the sim rig and output a 2nd HDMi from the Pedestal to a TV on the rig?

Would be nice because that way I wouldn't have to move the pedestal out of the way of the TV and then move the sim rig in front of the TV. I'm not sure if there is a way to have multiple instances of emulation running and have both the Pedestal and sim rig work at the same time when doing that, not that it's super important to do. Maybe I just need a racing Cab :)

If want the most for your money, consider getting a real car seat from a junk yard.  You can get something much more comfortable for the same price or less.

I've done just that... 3 times, for $20 total :) Had to strip the base cover off the first seat because it was filthy, although free. They're really comfortable, the backs adjust, and I mounted them on the rails so they slide backwards and forwards. And they're much lower than anything I've seen for sale. They have dedicated screens, of course. But it would be easier to mount them at whatever height you want.

2 great ghetto emulator setups so far, for less than $50 each. I spent more on the wood and mountings than the seats. That's without screen, controls and PC, of course.
