Bizzare cocktail arcade table question?
« on: July 03, 2016, 05:12:29 pm »
This is probably a newb question , I'm looking to build an arcade cocktail table and today I figured out about dip switches and flipping. however my question is I'm building a traditional table player at each end. If that's the case which way do I mount the TV. Surely I would mount it with the bottom of the TV towards player one so it flips up two player, however looking at pictures on the Internet and the curve on a CRT the bottom is facing away from both players anyone got any advice!

Whats going to be running the cocktail? Mame? Actual board? xx in one?

I have a Mame cocktail with a widescreen LCD and most of the games were configured by software to show up the way I wanted.

If you are putting in a specific game you may need to install the monitor a certain way.

It will be MAME ran for a raspberry PI however I'm keeping to traditional games that flip, donkey kong, frogger , packman etc. I was practicing with flipping from the dip switch which worked fine on my normal TV but made me think if I was just to place for example and LCD with let's say the Samsung logo at the bottom of TV on the long part of the table it would flip to both sides without players so am I missing function like I have to change a setting on the tv or do I mount it with the Samsung logo closest to player one.

If you are sticking to traditional vertical games, you will mount the screen sideways so that you have the most visual real estate.  You will need to tell MAME to rotate the screen though and then it will take care of the flipping internally.

Stay away from widescreen. It'll look like ass.
