Powering a CH-926 Coin acceptor with a PC PSU
« on: June 05, 2016, 04:39:12 pm »
Hi all,
I have just bought a coin acceptor for my arcade. I have gone for the CH-926 . I am wanting to power it from the PC Power supply. The acceptor comes with 4 wires which are bare ended. There is a red 12V wire and a black ground wire.

I have tried and failed to crimp molex pins to these wires so as an alternative approach, I was wondering if I could use something like this, cut the wires, remove the red 5V wire and one of the black ground wires from the harness and solder the yellow 12V wire to the coin selector's red (12V) wire and the remaining black wire to the coin selector's black wire and then obviously insulate the wires where they are joined using electrical tape

Can someone please tell me if this would work? I am no electronics expert but this seems like it shoud work.

Thanks

Yes, what you want to do will work.

I would cut the 12V PC wire (yellow = 12V, Black = ground), strip the ends.
Then do the same with the power wires for the coin receptor.  Go to AutoZone, Pep Boys, Advanced Auto parts, any auto parts place near you, and buy a pack of the male/female plug connectors.  There are several kinds to choose from, pick one that works for what you like.  If you do not have the correct wire crimping tool, use a good pair of pliers and squeeze the crap out of it.  Ensure you always pull on the wire and the crimped end to see if it will separate.  The harder you pull and it does not separate, the better connection.

I am pretty sure I have the colors correct, if not use the Red.

From my experience, when dealing with any type of electrical equipment where you may need to separate the equipment from the power supply, always do so using a means to "un-plug" the connection.
Cover all that up with electrical tape if you want.
Good luck.

Hi,
thanks for your help. I now have power to the unit, have trained some coins and see the pulse count show on the display when the coins drop through  :applaud:

Now I just need to wire it into my wiring loom so I can use it to add credits!
