Need some help with Logitech to M2 controller board
« on: May 05, 2016, 02:23:37 pm »
I'm trying to get the final pieces together for my twin racers and the FFB is the last big step. I picked up a pair of L2M2 kits and I'm now trying to verify they work. After going through the tutorial from the creator and setting the appropriate voltages, I hook up my logitech board and Sega steering panel. The problem I have is that when I connect the E1/E2 from the logitech board, the CW and CCW LEDs immediately light up and refuse to go out. When I go through the calibration and verify the wheel is centered, they're still lit. Initially I had the motor also hooked up but I could hear it humming and eventually the cab fuse would blow. I verified that the motor works fine by directly applying 100V to the cw/ccw pins on the motor harness. I also verified that the board receives some kind of signal from the logitech board because when I press one of the effect buttons in the logitech control panel, the lights will blink a bit to simulate the effect before going back to always on. And based on one comment from the original thread, I manually applied 24V to E1 and E2 with the motor hooked up to see if the motor would move and the LEDs light up like they were supposed to (one or the other but not both) and the wheel would pull to one side or the other.

I tried the other board I made and the results are the same. What else should I try?

Well I figured it out. I had been using a separate power supply to power up the l2m2 board so I could test it independently of the Logitech board. I then attached some wires to the power input on the Logitech board and used that to power up the l2m2 instead of the external power supply and now it works fine. No idea why that works, but at least it does now.
