Help with TurboTwist Spinner
« on: April 26, 2016, 05:00:31 pm »
Hi- first post here, long time reader. I just installed a GG Turbo Twist 2 spinner  in my MAME cab and have some questions about the amount of spin for classic games (Arkanoid, Tempest, etc.). I got the Energy Storage cylinder on mine but I"m not sure if the long spin times are good. I haven't played an original Arkanoid or Tempest in years and don't remember how tight/loose the spinner should be and how it should feel. Basically, I'd like to adjust the spinner to match as closely as possible those old units so the games play correctly. Any help would be much appreciated!

There's a video I made explaining it.  Take the link in the description to get a list with most of the games.

Now that I'm getting things correctly set, what about the Energy Storage cylinder for the Turbo Twist? I ordered it because it sounded like a good thing but I'm not sure now if it should be on there. It makes the spinner feel a little more substantial and, of course, if spins longer but I'm not sure that's a good thing.

It feels right with Tempest but is unneeded with Arkanoid.

I see, so I can't just leave it on or take it off completely- it's really a game to game thing. Also, the Turbo Twist is adjustable using a little allen wrench and I can't seem to decide if it should be 100% 'loose' or tightened down a bit. I didn't realize there'd be so many ways to tweak this thing! I thought it'd be more like a joystick that you sort of just plugged in and you were good. Because those early spinner gamers are so specific about how the spinner works, though, its worth it to get it right!

I really appreciate all the help!

I assume you are referring to the "Accu-Twist" feature.  If you are playing Arkanoid, or really any paddle type game, you will want a little bit of resistance.  This will counteract the ESC, and make those games more easily controllable, without needing to remove the ESC.  When you play a game where free-spinning is desirable, such as Tempest, you will want no resistance.

Yes, thanks, the Accu-twist feature is what I was referring to. I like the feel and 'smoothness' of the free-spinning setting but it didn't seem right for a lot of the games.

RandyT- love the spinner! It's even better than I was hoping for!

Yes, Randy made the TurboTwist very adjustable and you can pretty much dial in the feel you want. The Accu-Twist even does a pretty good job with earlier potentiometer games.
