It's been a long, long time....
« on: January 15, 2004, 12:57:09 pm »
Hey everyone.  AD here.  I've decided to get back into the hobby and finish my never completed arcade cabinet.  I think it's the longest work in progress around, going on about 4 years now.  For those who don't know me or remember me, I discovered www.arcadecontrols.com and the hobby back in late 1999 when it was the old message board.  I was a very active member then on the board (only one then!) and progressed to build my own cabinet.  To make a long story short, I nearly completed the cabinet, but ran out of time and money, and then my hard drive went dead after many, many hours configuring mame and the front end.  But, I'm back now and looking forward to being a part of this community again.  I tried once before but couldn't muster the time, but this time I think I'm back for good.  :)

Anyway, just wanted to say hi to a lot of the old vets.  What's up guys?

Lots of cool new products, software, and hacks have been introduced since we last saw you around.  You are gonna have to re-learn everything!  :)

Welcome back AD it's been a really long time.
Fess up AD did you just get away from the hobby or
did you really get married and your wife won't let you work on your cab anymore?  :-\

Looks like you got a lot of reading to do to catch up.

If I remember correctly, didn't AD leave around the time he started his own BYOAC type website? (was mostly based on tutorials)...  Or maybe I'm thinking about someone else?

Yes, that was me.  It was over at www.mamecab.com.  Things were just eating up a lot of my time, and I kinda lost interest.  I did write several tutorials and accepted quite a few from other people as well.  I'm not married, but I am still in college hoping to graduate in the summer.

Anyways, I'm going forward and finishing this beast I have had for so long.  I'm gonna scratch the trackball and build yet another panel with two eight ways and a nice red ball 4-way in the middle.  I have a 2 1/4" trackball in the middle right now but my panel is just too small and you can't really "slap" this thing at all.  Plus, these 2 1/4" balls don't seem to roll too well after you slap them, unless anyone knows of a way to make them roll better.  It's a new happs.  I'll prolly just sell it.  I think I'm going to build some sort of standalone panel on a stand that can roll up that I can use with a 3" trackball that I can play golden tee and tiger woods on.
