Qubert pop sound real?
« on: March 21, 2016, 11:27:30 pm »
I am getting old but I believe that back in the day, when Qubert fell off the edge some devise would slap the inside of the cab when he hit the bottom. I cant find this info when I google it but I may be just tripping.  :dizzy:

I swear that when I was about 10 I was playing qubert at the local arcade and I was surprised by a loud pop sound when Qubert hit the ground. Later on machines did not seem to have this.  :dunno

Maybe it never happed :embarassed:

Yes, it was solenoid/pinball knocker  that fired and hit a metal plate to simulate Qbert or one of his enimies hitting the bottom of the cab.
If you can read this, it means Photobucket's money grab ruined my signature photos.

P.S. There's no "u" in Q*bert, but sometimes people refer to it as "Qbert".

Yes, there is.  Several builds here have it.  Just use the forum search for knocker.

You can use the program Mamehooker to capture qbert falling. Then you can use an output controller like the PAC-DRIVE to fire a 12v solenoid through a relay to thwack the side of the cabinet.

Well, now that I know what to search for I found all kinds of info :lol

I was on mamehooker's site and couldnt find out what is the limit of what you can program it to respond to. For example, could i program it to set off a solenoid to strike a small gong when a specific character wins in mortal Kombat? :notworthy:
