Mala site - Malafe.net blocked by Chome and Firefox
« on: March 15, 2016, 06:39:50 pm »
I've been trying to get Mala, but Chrome and Firefox are claiming the site (Malafe.net) contains harmful programs. They also claim the Mala zip downloads contain malicious software. Does anyone know if this is a false positive? Don't wanna risk it, however I'd really like to get Mala!

It is a false positive.

Make sure you download the beta build....1.8something.

The last official release (1.74) doesn't work with 7zip files or mpg videos.

Mala isn't compatible with versions of MAME v.162 or newer (IIRC) because of changes made to MAME's xml format which Mala hasn't been updated to reflect.
There are workarounds, but I haven't done them myself yet.

You can use the latest version of RomLister to create MaLa game lists for use with newer versions of MAME.

Thanks, unfortunately Romlister isn't working for me. It gets hung up on Cops and Robbers (ad5copsrh) during the listxml/controls.xml/catver.ini merge and I don't even have that rom. My control.xml file is from 11/21/2009 and catver.ini is 5/11/2015.

Did they take away the ability to compile and arcade-only build of MAME?

Not sure what's happened there, but ad5copsrh isn't even a valid ROM name, as it has more than 8 characters (Cops'n Robbers ROM is copsnrob). What version of MAME are you using? Make sure you're using the latest version of RomLister, released july 7th, 2015.

I would also try downloading catver.ini and controls.xml again, and give RL another go. I've just tried it again here and it's working fine.

I'm using mame/grovvymame v0.171. ad5sopsrh appears to be Mazooma's Cops N' Robbers according to what I found in a google search. It may be the name of a file within the zip? Can those be longer than 8 characters? I also found it in the catver.ini file. Should I try deleting that entry in the ini?

Seems I was mistaken and some rom zip names are longer than 8 characters. For some reason I always thought they were never longer than 8 to keep to the old 8.3 file name limit.

Anyway, I don't have that rom listed in my catver.ini. Where did you download catver from? Try removing it from your catver and see what happens.

I spent half a thread making myself look silly because I had the same assumption.  At some point that was the case, but it was changed.  Not sure when.

I forget where I got it. Anyway, I deleted it and it worked! I also set up Mala with no issues. Finally, it feels like I'm getting somewhere! Now I just have to get the crtemudriver working.
