1 Speaker or 2
« on: January 14, 2004, 06:46:31 pm »
Hey All,

The cabinet that I've been working on has a slot underneath the marquee like this...

     ----
   --------
 -----------
   --------
      ----

Sorry for the crude drawing, I have pictures at home, just not here with me..I can submit them later.  Anyway, I pulled the old speaker out (it was 1 fairly large speaker). My dilema, is it possible to put 2 speakers in this without cutting additional holes?  Do I even need 2 speakers or will 1 big one be suffecient.  I think I'd prefer the stero effect for newer games.  Any ideas about the best way to go about this?  Any suggestions would be great.  Thanks

In one cab I have a slot like that and put 2 small computer speakers side by side over the hole and zip tied them down.
My statements are my own opinions. They have the value that the reader gives them. My opinion of my opinion varies between foolish and brilliant and these opinions often change with new information.

Not if you want stereo sound.  If you just want two speakers though, it won't matter.

Most arcade games don't have particularly good sound, so I don't think you'd be too disa pointed in trying it.  However there might be one or two newer stereo games that make use of stereo for a game effect, and you would be disapointed.  I don't know of any though.

I say try it, odds are you won't notice any problems.   Audio freaks won't like it, but they wouldn't like any speaker system you could physically fit in one cabinet.

If you do go for one speaker, make sure to get a stereo-to-mono adapter for it.
If you don't you'll only hear one channel on games that use stereo.

Thanks guys  :D,

I think I will try the two small side-by-side computer speaker setup and see how it sounds.  Thanks for all the great feedback.
