Question about Control Panel...
« on: January 14, 2004, 01:05:28 pm »
Ok, I notice it looks like everone bolts their joystick from the bottom.  What size hole do you use for where the Joystick sticks up?

I thought originally you just cut a square hole, set the Part of the Joystick with switches into it and then bolt it to the top.

But I got to thinking that did not seem right.  So what do people use as normally?

Sorry if this is another stupid question.

Generally 1-1/8, same as the buttons.  Could go wider if using really thick wood.  You could cut a square recess into the bottom of the wood, but you probably don't want a hole (unless you are using a mounting plate).

Thanks.  I am using 3/4 MDF, I will try the same size as the Button hole to start with, if not good enough.  Well, I will cross that bridge when I get to it.

Thanks.

the only things you have to think about when drilling the hole are these:

1. bigger than the shaft of the joystick (obviously)
2. large enough that the shaft can move in all directions freely
3. small enough that the dust cover covers it up.

I believe I went 1-1/4 and it seemed to work just fine. I did the same fo the buttons (couldn't find a decent 1-1/8 at the time) and the holes were too big for the buttons, but still useable. If you position the buttons carefully, it will cover all of a 1-1/4 hole, however....
