Bubble Bobble Bartop Machine
« on: March 08, 2016, 06:07:50 am »
Thought I'll share my latest machine with you guys.
This one was was pre-ordered by someone who saw my previous build. This is quite humbling, so thanks :)

It is missing the speakers grill which is delayed in the mail, but other than that she's done.
The shape and overall look is inspired by the beautiful machines of www.tinyarcademachines.com.

The Sketchup file, cut list, marquee Photoshop file, and everything else is freely available here:

As well as a photo album of unsorted pictures I took in the process:

Enjoy :)

Looks awesome. The LED buttons go well with the marquee. Nice job.

Nice build, what did you use for internal hardware ? Do you have the photoshop files for the sides, cpo, and front panel as well ?

I used a i5 computer, with 8gb RAM, an ssd for the OS and a 1Tb HDD for the ROMs.
I used the standard Japanese layout for the control panel (http://www.slagcoin.com/joystick/layout.html). I free-handed the rest.

Thanks I'm trying to decide between a small build using Pi and an all out Mame style with a PC.

This build started as pi based, but the costumer wanted some games that the pi does not support (die hard arcade, in particular). So we had to go full blown computer.

How does Pi handle mortal kombats and street fighters, and other 90s games like tmnt and Simpsons. I'm guessing killer instinct will bog down.

Love this bartop. Love bubble bobble, and I like the bright, shiny 'Japanese' look to this. Nice one.
Born in the early seventies
Grew up in the arcades in the 80's
Built "The Fox-Box" in 2012.

As will the Mortal Kombats, TMNT and Simpsons, however I believe there is a separate emulator that does well with the street fighter games.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

TMNT and The Simpsons run perfectly on my pi, much to my displeasure, because I hate them and my 5 year old daughter makes me play them all the time.

SF2 runs very close to full speed, only experiencing almost imperceptible choppiness in certain places, like at the end of a fight.

MK is playable but is a lot more choppy than SF2.

I would like to stress that my pi is the first ever model B, and I expect the B+, pi2 and pi3 would be a vast improvement.

I'm running mame4all, which is a lot faster than advancemame.
