Double Dragon not powering on!
« on: March 02, 2016, 11:59:50 pm »
Hi everyone,

I was wondering if someone can give me a clue on a problem I'm having with a Double dragon I purchased recently. The cabinet is a little beat up but the game was fully functional until the moving.

it seems the power cable plug was loose, when I got home, the plug came off the cable, like someone have tried to connect the ends of each cable with the plug, but didn't do that good of a job.

I tried to put it back together best I could, the Green I know is the ground, the other two cables are black and they are not label so I had to guess. at the first attempt, I didn't get any power, after switching the black cables, I got power, I could hear the monitor trying to go on, i get the typical sound you get when turning on a tube tv, but the monitor never goes on and the marquee light and game never go on either.

when I opened the cabinet, I noticed the owner never screwed the game board to the side of the cabinet. my guess, is that on the move, maybe something got disconnected or something. I'm 100% positive nothing was hit or dropped, I tried to be very careful, just lay it down in my truck, drove a short distance and then just move it carefully in my garage.

can someone tell me if this could be a power cable issue even though the monitor seems to try to go on?

or if could be something else that got loose?

I know its impossible to know whats going with it without looking at it, but I thought I guive it a shot and ask someone before I get an arcade repair company to fix it for me.

attached are images of the plug  ( there is no label on the plug or cables ) and also of a cable I see loose, though I find it impossible a connector like that to get disconnected. Off coarse I could be wrong.

thanks to everyone in advance.

A.

Don't guess with these things. Get a multimeter. Study this wiring guide:

http://www.therealbobroberts.net/acwiring.html

Tells you all you need to know. You can skip an arcade tech if you understand this. If there is a Harbor Freight by you, you can pick one up for free with a coupon on their site. You just need to spend $5 on something else. Buy the connector kit with the crimper. You'll need that too. Cheap as hell, but gets the job done.

This stuff isn't all that hard. I was in your position about 4 weeks ago. So far I have 4/5 of my cabs powering up. The last one, the monitor chassis has to be reconnected. That one is last on my list. One of them worked prior to transport. Then didn't power on after. Anoterh didn't power on at all. Both of those turned out to be just a loose wire. Guess what, the last one I described had a loose plug connection. So it is possible. I got lucky on those two, maybe you will be too.

My guess, if your monitor is powering on, check to see if the game board became loose from the JAMMA connector. But before you mess with again, study that guide and get that meter.
When you find great deals on Craigslist for CRT based cabs, exuberance :laugh2: can be a bad thing!
