Perfect $100 mini PC for arcade builds
« on: February 29, 2016, 03:59:24 pm »
Hey, I ran across an interesting product a few weeks ago. It is a $100 mini PC with a licensed copy of Windows 10 (64-bit). It has and Intel Atom X5-Z8500 (1.44 GHz), 2 GB LPDDR3 RAM and 32 GB eMMC SSD internal memory. It even has a fingerprint reader! This is plenty capable to run most emulators (even N64, dreamcast, psp, etc.) and even some Steam games like Brawlhalla (awesome smash bros clone). I've had no problems running Hyperspin with all the media installed, and RetroArch is running great as well. I waited until mine got here to to try it out before I reported on it, and I must say - I'm very VERY impressed. My next bartop build will definitely include this mini PC, and I may even switch out the PC in my upright cab. Here is a link:

Once my machine is all configured properly, maybe I will put a download here that contains Hyperspin all configured, so it could be a simple process - for those like me who just want to build. It could at least provide a decent starting point for someone to then either add or remove games and that's all they'd have to set up, theoretically.

Buy cheap pc-->Download package-->Add roms

Let me know what you guys think of the PC!
First Build: Multicade
Second Build: Nintendo Bartop

This computer was also discussed here before.
If you can read this, it means Photobucket's money grab ruined my signature photos.

Ahh thanks for the heads up. Was the Kangaroo Plus version ever discussed? It has double the RAM, double the ROM, and is $169.99

Just curious, what version of MAME are you running on it?  Later versions tend to require more CPU power.

I'm running 0.168 - some games like CarnEvil or Tekken do not run well (I also may have the wrong version of these ROMs, I'm new to this..but I do not think it is likely) - but the rest run great! And like I mentioned, no problems with n64 or GBA, even PSP or PSX.
