WTB ads on Craigslist
« on: February 26, 2016, 12:54:19 pm »
When surfing Craigslist for arcade machines, I see a fair amount of WTB ads.

Now obviously people have had success with WTB ads on KLOV.

However, has anyone here actually had success finding a machine with a WTB ad on craigslist? Or...has anyone sold a machine to someone who posted a WTB ad on craigslist?

I have a feeling that posting a WTB ad on craigslist is like shouting for help in the middle of a dense forest.
If you can read this, it means Photobucket's money grab ruined my signature photos.

I saw a WTB MKII, I didnt plan on selling my MKII but I messaged the guy. Sent him pix of my cab... He offered me $50

I've never posted a WTB but I have picked up a few cabs from CL, I tend to buy from here and KLOV though.
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

Neither of both, but my Craigslist is a ghost town for cabinets. It's the same 15-20 or so that are WAY overpriced, or just junk. Only once in a great while I will come across a gem (free CarnEvil working cabinet that I couldn't get to in time)

I still look daily, but it's pretty depressing. Just makes my decision to build my own more enforced.

Agree with that. Yea, I feel like I've been wasting my time with CL the last couple of years. Either the seller wants an obscene amount for a simple game...or some guy with nothing to do but click "refresh" ever 5 seconds beats me to the once-in-a-blue-moon deal.

I have tried it and so has one of my close friends. Here is what you normally get.

People pointing you to their own craigslist ads or ebay auctions.

People who think their games are worth a couple grand each.

My mother in law sending me an email pointing me to my own ad because she thought I could sell some games that way.

Ultimately neither one of us ever bought a single machine that way. I have however ended up with multiple machines from my repair ads because a lot of people who respond to that just want to sell their broken game and after getting an repair offer, buy offer and a link to Exidy's price guide just opt to sell.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

To be fair, I did get my first cabinet off Craigslist for free.

Well, to clarify, the guy was posting an ad for a free cabinet. When I got there, the cabinet was pretty much a full loss. I noticed he had another cab in much better shape (converted to Street Fighter) that had a monitor in it. I started telling him about my intentions to make a "multi cabinet" and he agreed to give me the better cabinet once he took the monitor out.

He then asked me if I wanted to see his collection (which I was a bit nervous about seeing as I didn't know this guy from a hole in the wall). Turns out, he owned the house next door and the entire basement was FULL of arcades and pins. He must have had 25-30 working cabs, crane game, and about 5-10 pins. Full bar, "cave painting" rock wall, arcade carpeting, it was awesome.

I wish I would have exchanged contact info because I never saw the guy again on Craigslist. Wonder what he's up to....lol  :dunno

If he had ever wanted you back, he would have invited you.  It's always strange to come across guys like that but I've met several over the years.
