Question about mounting IL Eurosticks
« on: February 17, 2016, 12:43:24 am »
Hey guys,

I have seen IL / Happ sticks mounted a few different ways. One is screwed into the MDF from the bottom inly so there is nothing on too and it is hidden. Another way with bolts going from the top inside (more secure maybe but ugly IMO.) Lastly I have seen some people router out a spot on the bottom of the panel and inset mount the stick.

I am assuming the reason for inset is to give a little more heigth to the joystick shaft?

I have a 1/2 inch MDF panel and I am wondering if my IL Euros (dont have them yet) will be ok to mount the first way, screwing into the MDF from underneath and not inset. Will I still have plenty of height on the shaft that way?

I am not equipped at the moment to do it the inset way. I plan to put the screw slightly more than 3/4 of the way through the 1/2 inch MDF. If worst comes to worst and I have to bolt it from the top I guess thats fine I just prefer a smooth top and am using thin Plexi on top of the CP.

Thx.

Very informative.. I guess what I really should ask is... Based on the info about my setup in the OP, do you guys think that I will be able to play comfortably with a undermount setup. Even if I did inset it from the bottom, I would only gain about 1/4 inch max of shaft so I dont suppose it is that big of a loss but just wondering if anyone has done this and felt good about the height or regretted it because that extra 1/4 inch matters.

Thanks for the link.. Lots of good tech info there that I havent seen before.

This is a largely subjective matter, but the stick should work well for you..   :dunno

Your best bet is to practice-mount the stick on a scrap piece of 1/2" MDF and see how it looks and feels.

You should be able to tell pretty quickly if you like it or not.   ;D
