My first two projects - Hoping to make the 3rd even better!
« on: February 16, 2016, 03:59:46 pm »
Hey all! I've poked around the forums here a TON over the past few days. Kinda upset that I didn't use them for my first two cabs. I won't bore with many details of the first two builds but am looking at taking on a much bigger project VERY soon and am certain I'll be reliant upon all the expertise here to get me through. More on that later, though.

First, I'll get my first two builds out here.

First cab was a beat up World Class Bowling build with a busted monitor I found for $80 bucks in 2010. Wife said NO, but then went on a mini-vacation to FL with her friends so while she was gone I went and picked it up (ask for forgiveness, not permission right?). I also was stubborn about drawing/painting all the artwork on the cab myself (I'll never do that again, and have since learned a little Photoshop). I dropped in a 24" Dell monitor, an old tower computer, an X-Arcade Tankstick (no wiring knowledge at the time), bezel and CPO from Game On Grafix and all the other smaller stuff and here it is:

Below is my second cab, a gift for my brother's wedding. His all-time favorite game is The Legend of Zelda, so that was my design inspiration. Bought a bartop kit from Monster Arcades since my woodworking skills are very novice at best. Learned a little CP wiring this time around and also about soldering! Believe I used a 21.5" monitor for this and a slim pc. Learned to go into the Windows registry, etc. and kill anything that looks like Windows so it boots up to a custom Zelda themed screen I created for him. Still definitely some things I'd have done differently in hindsight, but learned a lot again and had so much fun creating the artwork for the sides, tiny bezel and CPO. Looking forward to my next project!

Thanks Noober! Read your thread - props on going at the woodworking yourself on your bartop. I haven't gotten the nerve to try it yet myself but soon will.
