Pachenko Game
« on: January 13, 2004, 08:45:21 am »
Anyone have one of these?  I've done some poking around on this one, it appears to work on entirely mechanical means.  There are a few wires in the back, but they are for 12 volts. The 12 volts seems to be for some lights that blink when the little pachenko balls trigger a switch.

Has anyone restored one of these?  It doesn't work correctly and I don't know where to begin.

Here are closeups of some labels on the face of the game:

My father has one similar to yours.  Is it your mechanical parts that aren't working or are you trying to fix the electrical?

and here:  I think this is the manufacturer's emblem, as I have seen it in more than one place on the game.  Can anyone give me more information?  This is my wife's game, and I would love to be able to suprise her by restoring it.   ;D  Get myself some brownie points maybe...

Its the mechanical that doesn't work correctly... Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.  I also know I need to make a replacement front panel for under the main glass one, balss come flying out of there because there is nothing to stop them.

I'll see what I can find out.  I do remember my fathers sticking occasionally.  A little off topic, but would you know where to get a bag of replacement balls?

My family had one like that years ago when I was in High School.  I remeber we had to clean and lube some of the mechanical parts to get it to work consistently.

Do a search on the net, there are plenty of places to get the balls from. Just make sure you spell it correctly. "Pachinko"

Here are a few, but I have not dealt with any of them.

Cool.  For some reason, I didn't even think of that.  I'll give my father a call and see if he can remember anything about his Pachinko machine.

I believe that i have the EXACT one you do.  And I've NEVER plugged it in to power.  I don't have any lights anymore and didn't know they where there originally until you mentioned it.

But take a day and take it apart and figure out what it all does..

Things to take note:  make sure you have enough balls at the top.  If there isn't enough... it shuts down the payouts and gets jammed.

Anyway, I had mine built into a cabinet drawer for years.  Worked great!

Heh.. did they ever fix the voices in that game?

HarumaN: I checked with my father and there's really nothing he can help us with, without seeing what the problem may be.  I think your best bet is what somebody already suggested to clean and lube your mechanical parts.  While I was browsing on ebay for balls, I did notice some repair manuals for Pachinko machines.  They seemed relatively cheap.

I also own that EXACT same Pachinko machine, should be a Nishjn (spelling may vary on that word).

 Hiya,

Are these games fun / worth getting ?

They have been selling pretty expensivly on ebay latly, and didnt know if i could justify the high cost for something i may hardly ever play.

Also, id think the pure mechanical ones are more fun than the new autofire ball ones.. but i coud be wrong.  Anyone care to comment?

The new ones are much more fun. If you want one, then go for a new one, there are usually a few new ones at any given arcade auction.

The mechanical one I have gets very little play.

I just want to restore this one because its been in her family ever since it was bought in Japan and brought back.  I'm gonna try disassembling and cleaning and lubing and see what happens.

I found the manufactures name to be Nishijin.

Any idea how old this board may be?

I don't know how old that one is, but we got ours in 1977.  he mechanicals appear to be identical to the one we had.  Only the playfield graphics look different.

You might want to video tape what you are doing when you dis-assemble it so that you can double check how it goes back together.

I have nothing to offer to this discussion, but I wanted to say thanks for telling me what these things are called. Back in the '70s a friend of my dad had one of these in his house, and I loved playing it. As an adult I've thought that I'd like to get one, but never knew what they are called. Definitely looking into buying one.

Paige, you say it's best to buy one new. Can you point me toward someone who sells them?

Well, thanks a lot (insert sarcasm here).

I bought three of these about 12 years ago.  They're still in storage at my parents basement.

Now, you've got me all excited about restoring them (the ebay manual wasn't around 12 years ago (looks pretty awesome!)).

And I thought my girlfriend was going to kill when I told her I was building an arcade, just wait until she hears about this!

on the upside, at least my parents will be happy to get them out of the house.

It's too bad that when I was younger, the metal balls ended up in my sling-shot way too often.

For anybody who doesn't have a pachinko, you should pick one (or 3) up.  You can usually find them at garage sales etc.  What's nice is that they can be mounted flush with the wall (if you have some skills) because they swing open on hinges.  Would look really sharp in a game room.

Here's some repair links:

www.flippers.com/pachinko.html

www.slot-pachinko.com

www.collectoressentials.com/p8-3947-kiss-pinball-service-operation-manual.html

Personally IMO, I never liked the flimsy construction and flimsy parts these things used. They are cheap.

Just search for them on ebay I found a guy selling used ones straight from the Gazza strip for about 160 bucks which might seem like a lot but they little 3-4 inch lcd monitors in them and do all kinds of cool stuff.

Actually after I posted this yesterday I did a quick ebay search. I don't particularly care for the newer machines I saw. This is probably because the one I played as a kid was the old style wood and chrome type. I'd much rather have one of those, even if it will be difficult to keep it working.
