  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Ipac 4 versus Ipac2-Xin-Mo combo for custom control Panel

Hello Guys.  I am putting together my first cabinet to fulfill one of my childhood dreams of having an arcade game in my home. I have a collection of consoles, but nothing replaces the experience of basically spending all of your quarters in a real arcade back in the early-mid 80s! Because time is a limiting factor for me, I have decided to cheat a bit and go with the Xtension premium XL cabinet/ Tank-stick setup---I just don't have the time, patience, or ability to build from scratch or restore...although, there is a certain degree of installation involved putting that cabinet together... ;D

However, I found that the tank-stick does not cover all of my favorite old-school games---most notably Tron.  For this reason, I decided to build a custom control panel that would serve as a second control panel for the Xtension cabinet, but with increased versatility to cover some of the other games.  Attached is the design of the custom control panel that I am building (yep! :applaud:), and I must admit that it has been the most fun part of the project! I ended up buying a drill press, a router, and several dremmel attachments to get the task done, but it was quite the journey.

I am starting the assembly, but I am faced with a question that I need some help with.  My control panel will have: 2 Zippy 4/8 way sticks, 2 turbo-twist 2 spinners, an Ultimarc 360U, and a 2button Happ flight-stick modified with a restrictor to play Tron.  This is a total of 4 sticks, two spinners, and the 21 buttons (5 on the sides not shown on diagram).  I assumed that I would be able to cover all of these input devices with the combination of the Ipac2 and Xin-Mo USB encoders that I had purchased.  I was thinking that it would involve having to plug into two USB ports for this to work, but now I am concerned that this may cause some conflicts in setting up the emulators/front end.  Should I instead purchase the Ipac 4 for my setup?  What do you guys advise?

Thanks!!!  :)
