Question for you web savvy operators
« on: January 12, 2004, 04:47:29 pm »
I'm looking into getting a new web hosting service. I currently use a decent one, but I have absolutely no idea how to find a great one - I'm afraid of signing up with a new one only to find out something missing later on.  Or they might stick banner ads on my stuff, etc.   And running a search on google is scary.

Basically, I want a site I can make some experiments with - at least 100MB of storage, high bandwidth limit, fast servers.  I am doing a lot of flash stuff at work and it'd be great to experiment with scripts and server-side stuff.  Can't really do that with the one I"m on now.

Any recommendations?  What are good prices? Thanks for any input you might have :)

What do you think of these guys? http://www.ipowerweb.com/

Special intro to their service is free. They offer premium services, as well.

Here's a cheap one for you.
http://e-rice.net I have 2 sites with this web host.  Their prices are very very cheap.  I've never had a problem with them and I have been with them for over a year.

I followed Tick's lead and just signed up for 1and1.com's promotional offer. 3 years for free. 500MB space, 5GB xfer, .99 per GB over per mo. Cancel with no obligation anytime. Option to convert to $5/mo. after 3 years.

Um.....why can't I shake the feeling that I just got suckered? Ah, well. They don't ask for any billing info, so here it goes.... Guess they'll be hosting my upcoming Mission Control cab.

WOO HOO.....I think.

I have a site that pushes a decent amount of traffic that's hosted by poehosting.com.  Nary a problem with them.

Thanks guys for the tips - I signed up for 1and1.com a little over a week ago and transfered my domain.  A great deal.  500MB, 5gb transfer, all the bells and whistles (that I like), thanks Tick.  Good stuff.

1and1 are not offering the same deal anymore, I guess I'm a day late and a few dollars short.  Any other free or nearly free web host that can be recomended?  I need to save my pennies for upgrades on my Arcade.

My web site has been up with 1and1 for close to a year now. No complaints, and the price was right...free  ;D
Vids:  Home built MAME machine, Crystal Castles. Arkanoid
Pins:   Williams Aztec (working). Stern Nugent (not working...yet), Williams Phoenix (major not working, missing parts.... )

Always on the lookout for buying 90's game with Ramps that need work...
