Aimtrak gun calibration issue
« on: January 11, 2016, 06:19:34 pm »
Hi all,
I have two Aimtrak guns and they're doing the same thing. I go through the calibration process just fine. My vertical calibration in Windows is spot on. I can see the mouse cursor just over the tip of my gun. As I move the gun up and down on the monitor, the cursor stays right above the tip of my gun.
However, as I move my gun left and right on the horizontal plane the cursor travels further than my gun actually moves. So the cursor ends up reaching the edge of the screen when my gun tip is only about 80% of the way towards the side. That happens on either the left or the right side. And if I go back to the middle, it's once again right on the tip of my gun.
I thought perhaps there was some mouse acceleration setting in Windows that was messing it up but I turned that off to no avail. Plus it only happens side to side.
The other weird thing I'm noticing is when I'm in the 'Sensor View Check' of the utility, whatever direction I move my gun... the red dot moves the opposite. I move it left, dot goes right. I move it down, dot goes up.
Any ideas?

The sensor view issue is completely normal. So that is definitely not your problem.

Are you sure you have calibrated them correctly?

When you activate the trigger at each point it should be aimed at the point where the cursor is flashing, not at the corner of the screen.

Calibration can be inaccurate on CRT screens which have inaccurate picures, ie too much overscan or non-linear picture but you can usually trick the calibration into compensating by aiming at a different point(s). Try experimenting.

Hi Andy,

I'm pretty certain I have them calibrated correctly. I am indeed pointing the gun at where the cursor is flashing and not the corner. And it's on an 30" LCD screen, not a CRT.
I didn't think about trying to trick the calibration. I will see if that works.
