DK original color and removing cigarette burns form the CPO
« on: December 18, 2015, 11:22:02 am »
Im in the process of restoring a red DK cabinet and wanted to share a few things. I notice that by sanding the top coat of paint then hitting it with a fine grit sand paper will actually reveal the original red color then spraying it with a clear coat will bring it to original. Ofcourse this will probably only work if your cabinet is faded and otherwise in good shape. But i notice alot of people that get color matches from the top layer of paint which has been faded due to time and the environment.

The attached pictures you can see the difference, the small piece was sanded and will be used to color match. After i sanded it i hit it with novus to make it shine and you really can see the difference.

Also while im restoring the control panel i figured i would share a video explaining how i removed the cigarette burns on my CPO and how i made it look like new again, i also go over the differences between the DK joystick and Vs joystick more specifically the restrictors.

Here's an exact match for Radarscope Red that I used (only available at Lowe's), chose semi-gloss with primer built in:

However, if you are going to touch it up to match what you have there then I would go ahead and get it color matched.

Nice job on the cigarette burns!
