monitor recommendations
« on: December 09, 2015, 08:50:53 am »
Wife is asking for Christmas gift suggestions...
We've had a small glass-top coffee table that I've imagined turning into a couch-side mame system for a few years, but haven't wanted to spend the cash on a monitor yet. Figured maybe getting a monitor would make a good gift to get that ball rolling next spring.  Soooo...does anyone have good suggestions for a 24-27 inch flat screen monitor with good viewing angles for relatively cheap? I don't mind refurbed for a project like this.

TigerDirect had a 27" IPS panel LG monitor in it's e-mail today for $159. ( http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=9885725&sku=LGE-103086689&SRCCODE=WEM4727C&utm_source=EML&utm_medium=main&utm_campaign=WEM4727&lk=8 )

With it being an IPS panel it should have good viewing angles ( Specs say 178 degree in both horizontal and vertical ) - seems decent for the price !

My suggestion is to stick with a 4:3 aspect ratio and an IPS monitor (great viewing angles):
Samsung Syncmaster at Arrow Direct grade A and cheap!  Use code ARROW for additional discount.

This one is black so it will hide easier behind the glass.  (Only 1 left!)

I was going to suggest the same ( I have a 214T which is the newer version of that and it has great viewing angles and is one of the larger 4:3 monitors I've found) but he mentioned 24-27" so figured he was wanting the 16:9 widescreen format  :dunno

Thanks. i'll have to take a look if a 4.3 would fit into this table. I'll actually try to get a picture of it, as I'd love to see what cool ideas the crowdsource could provide.

And now there's none left :)
thanks again. Gave the link to the wife, and she told me to go ahead and order and she'll put it under the tree for me. Can't wait to see what gifts I'm getting this year!!!

Curious, how much did it come out to with the ARROW discount code?  I think the code allows for free shipping but not sure...

A few cents shy of $55 shipped free to Nebraska. Not bad at all!

The coffee table in question was something the wife picked up at a thrift store for $1 with full intentions of letting me at it. It's in good shape, but appearance is rough....I still don't know exactly what I want to do with it, but allowing her to play Dr. Mario from the couch is definitely on my wish list.  I'll snap a photo or two to throw onto the site, as I'd love to see the group-think ideas on it.
