Mamehooker / 2nd Marquee issues
« on: December 06, 2015, 12:09:39 am »
Sorry...posted originally in wrong forum...today has been a struggle :)

And earlier today a similar post with a dumb question...now its seemingly legit

Here is my set up.

Windows 7 Pro. Running on an i5 with a dedicated Graphics card.  28 inch 16:10 monitor hooked up via VGA for gameplay. New 25 inch 21:9 monitor hooked up via HDMI for displaying monitor artwork.

I have spent all damn day trying to make this work and it simply wont.  I am certain I have read and tried every thread not only here....but anything Google, Yahoo, Bing would discover.

My settings in MH for displays and where to look for artwork look right.  Mame ini set to 1 monitor..

I feel like I have everything set up correctly...but...and this is prob obvious to everyone else... Win 7 will only assign the HDMI monitor as "Display 1??"  I am presuming that for this to work that would need to be set up as "display 2?"

I can set the monitors up correctly in the GPU window just fine...but the Windows 7 OS will not change.

It seems like it "wants" to work when I start up a game as the second monitor flickers a few times...but the extended desktop just stays where its at.

Anyone have any ideas?

What is the make of the dedicated graphics card?

Typically you would set up your basic extended desktop layout using the Windows display applet, letting Windows choose monitor IDs however it wants to.  The options to change monitor ID are normally found in the video card driver applet, and it shouldn't matter what type of input is being used versus assigned ID number. I might be misunderstanding the question though.

Radeon hD 6450.

After alot of reading... I guess its pretty common.  Windows 7 will not allow you to "manually" assign display ID's.

My new monitor only has hdmi input... And that seems to always be assigned #1.

I hve to give up for today...10 hours and im mentally wiped out :)

Thx!

You are correct: Win 7 will just assign IDs on its own. The Radeon drivers (via Catalyst Control Center) will allow you to reassign IDs though, under the 'desktops' tab (or maybe 'display groups' - my memory is dim right now, but it's one of those). The reassignment supercedes the Windows setting and should allow you to do what you want.

The trick is not to mess with the Windows display applet after you've reassigned IDs in CCC; it will undo the CCC settings, usually with baffling results.

Oh great .... Ive changed stuff around in each at least a dozen times  :banghead:

I am past baffled.  Hope I didnt screw myself and waste a bunch of loot on a monitor that wont work for me...

Thanks for the reply but I sure hope someone running a marquee display can chime in with a solution.

Since the card has a DVI-D port, you should be able to get a DVI to HDMI cable, or converter plug from DVI-D to female HDMI and then a straight HDMI.
Would it be possible to get your hands on either one?
The converter plug may be cheaper, but a straight cable would be more reliable.
Best Buy will have both parts available.

Did the video card come with a configuration app?  I know from experience that Windows sometimes messes with multi-monitor configs on reboots.   All of my multi-monitor setups on the PC side use Matrix and there is an app called "PowerDesk" that I use to configure IDs and layouts.  When I use that utility the settings keep with reboots.

Thank you for the responses.  I did think about a DVI adapter...cheap on Amazon.  I really prefer to just get them assigned correctly before I try that.  I have no guarantee that the monitor assignments wont be the same though... as the second monitor only has the one HDMI input??

I do have the configuration software for the card.  Windows 7 seems to override that but it is very possible I am missing a setting somewhere.

I am eager to get home from work and get a fresh start.  Sometimes sitting in front of the same computer issues with these types of things for hours on end only seem to compound the problem.

A day away from it hopefully will yield some clearer thinking on my part.  I am far from an expert on this stuff but have played around with Mame/Hyperspin enough in the last 4-5 years that I cant believe something so simple has me hung up.

Thanks again for the suggestions....anyone else running Mamehooker for 2nd Marquee feel free to chime in with your setup/experience!

Well... I got it!!  I basically just deleted all facets involved and started from scratch.  Reset everything back to defaults....reinstalled vid card/drivers...reinstalled Mamehooker.  Entered my settings and paths and .....

Boom! There it is!  Pretty stoked.

Now the quest for decent marquee art begins.  Most of mine is just not going to get the job done!

Thanks to all who took the time to respond!

Does anyone notice this program bogging down the games just a bit?  Admittedly, my vid card is pretty low end.  Running HLSL, Hyperspin and now this....  I don't know...that may be my next upgrade??

Thanks a bunch!

Where did you get your marquee LCD at, and how much did it cost.
I like the idea, but I think the size I need is a unique size, so I may be out of luck.

I purchased an LG 25 inch 21:9 monitor for $119 over the Thanksgiving weekend.  It seemed to good a deal to pass up.  It wont look perfectly integrated in my cab...but to me the coolness of seeing the marquees chand trumped that a bit. (I should note that it was $139 but I had a gift card of some type for $20)

Keep your eyes open...I noticed the price jumps up and down quite frequently.

Down the road I plan to completely start from scratch anyway.

I would really like one of those 29 inch 21:3 monitors...or whatever they are.  But $500 is a a bit unrealistic for that in my opinion.

Later.

I totally forgot about the ultra wire monitors lol
looking at the dimensions, itll almost fit in my cab, except for itll be 4 inches too tall and half in too wide.

I seen there were the LCD bars, I guess used for advertisements, that would work great, but only seen them on Alibaba, which doesn't have the size I would need.
