Opinions on Ultimarc's T-Stik Plus??
« on: January 10, 2004, 10:47:35 am »
Hey, I was wondering if anyone out there has an opinion on Ultimarc's T-stik plus?  ???

I've heard that Happ's perfect 360 Opticals were the best 8-way sticks, but that their supers would also do. The main reason that I may be going with Ultimarc is because they have a restrictor plate that can be rotated on the joystick to give it an authentic 8 or 4 way feel  ;D, whereas most of the other ones that I've seen simply disable the corner contacts for 4-way mode. On top of that, you can rotate the restrictor plate on T-stik Plus without having to go in through the coin door.

It seems to me that these may be the way to go, but maybe i'm wrong.

Anyway, like I said before, does anyone have an opinion or reccomendation regarding 8-way joysticks and 4-way joysticks.

Thanks

*bump* I'm actually interested in a review on these too.. I saw the whole "Pull and Twist" to switch to 4-way mode and was impressed.

Anyone tried these?!

Very mini review: I have the old T-stick, so I can't comment on how easy they are to switch, but the T-stick has an _incredibly_ short travel.  Like maybe a quarter what a Super will throw.  I never installed it (it wouldn't have worked out in my control panel), but it seems to not have the same failing as the J-Stick.  The J-Stick is great in 4-way mode, but when it's in 8-way mode the stick tends to fall into the diagonals.  I'd guess that the T-stick doesn't have this problem because the throw is so short to start with.  That or the J-Stick contacts the cherries like a super, the T-Stick is more like an ultimate, and the square at the base keeps the corners the same.

But I'm sure that someone who actually has one can comment, heh.

So then, you didn't like your T-stik?

What makes a short throw a bad thing?

Eh, if it were a standalone stick, it would've been fine, but I have a Total Carnage/Smash TV/Robotron thing going on, and having one stick with significantly shorter throw than the other would have been just as distracting as the fall-to-corners J-Stik.

Oh, and the bolt pattern isn't quite standard.  *shrug*  Woulda meant rebuilding my CP.

I had Ultimates & Supers. I replaced them with t-stiks, and haven't looked back. I love them.. and I plan on buying a t-stik plus pretty soon.

I like the short throw on the t-stik. It feels more authentic to me.

HOWEVER, I had a party at my house with about 60 people, and the opinion was mixed with the party goers. I'd say it's mostly about taste.

I love the t-stik, and would recommend it.

What about the restrictor plate?

Does it produce an authentic 8 or 4-way feel??

I'm getting ready to rebuild one of my control panels; and will probably put T-Stiks or T-Stik Pluses in it.
I'm not happy at all with the ultimates because I find the stick travel too long, and they twang and oscillate when you release them suddenly.

I love my modified top fire Super; but figured I'd give the T-stiks a shot because of their easy-to-use restrictor plates.
They sound like they are going to be what I am looking for straight out of the box.

The S-stick is definitelly a stick made for precission. I love shoot'em ups and my skills have improved a lot thanks to the short throw of the stick. I don't know how good it is for fighters because I'm no expert with these games, although I find easy to do those circular movements (actually you don't feel the corners when you move the stick). I cannot comment on the four-way mode because I have not tested it with that kind of games.

I just ordered two T-stik plus MK2 versions for my cocktail cab I'm planning on writing a review when I get them running.  But it seems like they have made a decent amount of changes on the MK2 version.  I they changed the switching mechanism and I think they also made it possible to change the spring tension.

Also they do use a standard bolt layout but they use the narrow one.  If you look at happs joysticks they have the two sets of hole it uses the inner set so if you wanted to make a CP and then didnt like the T-stiks you could still swap them out for happs stuff.

Thanks for all your replies

Has anyone had any experience with games such as Tekken or Street Fighter and a T-Stik Plus?

Keep in mind the T-Stik Plus hasn't been around all that long.  There may be a few out there but most probably aren't in cab's just yet.  Hence most replies have been from regular T-Stick users.

As for T-Sticks themselves, I love mine.  I'll be ordering a couple of T-Stick Plus MkII's within the next few weeks for my 4 player cab (sure, I don't need 4 8/4 way switchable sticks but I want them all the same).

But what about fighting games where it requires specific directions such as tekken or the street fighter series?
