Mounting TV monitor DESPERATE!

My MAME cab. is rfinished except for the monitor.  The cabinet isn't a normal one where the monitor is standing straight up its angled at about 45 degrees or something.  The cabinet had a metal chasis frame that was used to hold the old arcade monitor.  I took apart a Sony TV I had lying around and was about to hook it up to the frame because it had the 4 corner screws taht hooked into the frame.  But when I tried to turn it on the tv didn't work.  I have another TV lying around that I'd like to try again with, but I wanted to know if there is anything I should do first?  Is there a specfiic way to take out the TV from its casing and how to hook it back up so it works fine.  When I tried it the first time and plugged it in the TV made the sound of it turning on (without me turning it on), a light shined for like 20 seconds then everything went off and it didn't work anymore.  Any tips would be greatly apreciated!  Is it a good idea to take the TV out of its casing and mount it to the arcade frame?  How should I go about doing it?  Please any tips!

To be honest that sounds like you blew up the tv.

It might be that the tv had a fuse and it saved it though....

Check along the circuit board and look for a blown fuse on the main circuit board.

My guess is part of the circuit board is touching the metal frame, which is really bad.   Check to make sure it isn't.  Oh and btw BE CAREFUL!  We don't want to see you zapped across the room.

okay i have done one like this..20 inch tv...have someone hold it for ya,never put the face on the tube in the floor(this will damage the tube,color disorder)put the circuit board in a piece of wood.no metal.its very easy to blow somthin up.if you do blow up the fuse you can have someone install a new one.if you can do it yourself then do but if i were you i wont try.also buy some mounting bracet from happcontrols.dont even think of a wooden frame.that part is painful.with a 27" tube,it will be a challange.but if you have someone who can help you then you might wanna give it a shot.if you go with wood frame then try to get it right first try.but monitor bracets are lot easier.and the last thing,dont bother opening the tv from the case unless its really needed.good luck and dont kill yourself

P.S. i only shocked myself once on some speakers.no biggie but monitor will kill ya

Sorry, but this is absolutely not right, unless I understand you wrong.  

Of course you can lay the face of the tube (the screen) on the floor - if there really accure some color distortions then this is nothing the degaussion cannot fix. (this gets automatically started if you power on the monitor after being at least 15 minutes without power)
If you really can't fix it this way, buy a degaussion coil or try to ask your local tv-dealer if he can lend you this maybe.
The only thing that you should really care of is the neck of the tube - if it breaks, your tube is forever gone, if it doesn't break on the end (which it usually would do) it even could implode. I guess its always a good thing when you are not alone while doing this, 'cause a big tube can get damn heavy and slippy!

i really dont know what the hell happend.but i put the face down and after i hook up everthing there was problem with color.so i simply went back and got another one..i have no idea if i am wrong but i thought thats what discolored the tube..top of that it wasn't even my monitor..i was just helping my buddy..

Hi Snaaake!

Where the colors distorted at parts of the tube or everywhere the same distortion? (e.g. one color missing? there are some pretty testpicture-programs out there that could help you with this)

If you switch your tv on (using the switch on the TV, not on the remote-control), degaussion should automatically appear, on most TV's you'll hear a loud sound when this happens. Very loud when it's a Sony. The colors should then get right again. Also, color distortion are very likely to appear when you move the TV while it is currently running or was just running a few minutes ago. Best is to leave it out for at least 15-30 minutes, so there shouldn't such problems appear.

I've seen the permenant discoloration happen before but only when speakers or large magnets are involved.  Personally I will only work on a tv if it's face down.  It' keeps the heavy picture tube flat and stable and if by some reason I were to break the tube, the imploding glass won't bounce back and fly all over the room.

Yep, but that's nothing an external degaussion coil (like the one they sell at Happs or your local TV-man should have) couldn't fix!
