USB Port plug for back of stand alone control panel
« on: November 14, 2015, 10:20:38 am »
Does anyone know where to get something like this for a standalone control panel? I need to be able to hook it up to the computer and was thinking I would bring everything to one or more of these ports.

Does anyone know where to get these or something similar?

Welcome aboard, Xantari.   ;D

There are several good options including:

* Neutrik "NAUSB-W-B" feedthrus -- lots of vendors including Allied Electronics and Mouser carry them.

One nice thing about these Neutrik USB A-B feedthru connectors is that they are reversible -- just remove the two screws.

* GGG has another version here.

Related thread with several more options here.

I would not use an A-type on the controller. Make sure you get a B-type to ensure standard cables will function correctly. Straight through A to A cables are not USB compliant....

You mean the Groovy gear one that is A to A is not USB compliant? Never heard of that before.

THey also have several on EBAY for Motorcycle or boat dashboards ( http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=MOTORCYCLE+USB+DASH&_sop=15 )

ANd have some with both USB and either HDMI or Auxillary plugs for your headphone or speaker connection also.

I don't think you understand. These parts are intended for the host, or rather the cabinet itself*. That is USB compliant. What is not compliant is putting these on the client, or rather the controller. Specifications require B-type connectors (OTG not withstanding).

A to A was never specified for fear of causing short circuits should a user decide to connect two hosts together. Those "networking" A to A cables are effectively cross over cables where each circuit is isolated to avoid short circuits.

I actually have an "illegal" A to A cable from India and it certainly isn't something to be used for plugging two PCs together.

* technically, the GGG part isn't a pass thru but an extension cable since its an A female to an A male. The others are passthru sporting B to A. But the B and A are opposite what they should be for a client.

That's why I mentioned that the center barrel of the Neutrik can be reversed (i.e. B-side out) by removing two screws.
