412-1 JAMMA board - Track ball question
« on: November 11, 2015, 12:52:29 pm »
Question about how to connect my track ball to the 412-1 game board.

I purchased a 3" Blue Trackball, by Happ and Made in USA
Durable polycarbonate
3" diameter
Standard AMOA harness included

It appears the wiring harness connection is different.  I also purchased a harness for a 3" interface and neither of the connection seems to fit.

What do i need to do?

thanks for any help.

You can also hack the harness and feed it +5V and GND from your switcher PS. Then wire the clk and dir from the optic boards to up/down and left/right

first, thanks for the help!

I've actually got the wiring harness you mentioned above, but my connection is different.  The jamma interface has 4 connections versus one.

Please review hyper link to see example

Laymans terms - connect the +5 and Ground from my power supply.  Wire direct to the black connector on the mother board?

Since ive got the wiring harness, i need to understand why ive got four connections and possibly create a new connector?

Do you have this harness? http://www.hollandcomputers.com/store/pc/JAMMA-Trackball-Interface-Wiring-Harness-for-3-Trackball-for-138-in-1-276-in-1-352-in-1-412-in-1-PCBs-2515p8035.htm

It should be plug and play. Plug into your 2 optics then to the header on the PCB.

The "hack" would be:  Wire the +5V and GND from each optic to your power supply or tap into the JAMMA harness itself in whatever way you like to - cut/solder/butt splice/scotch locks/whatever.  Then your 2 directional wires for each optic become up/down and left/right.  Wire those to the JAMMA harness wires from pins 18,19,20,21.

Disclaimer:  That *should* work. It's been a while since I've done one.  If it doesn't and you have a munched up harness when you're done don't blame me.

thanks for the help.  I needed to remove the original harness from the two PCB boards.

All is good.   My fault... thanks for the help
