Anyone know what size hole to drill for HEAVY DUTY 8-WAY JOYSTICK WITH 2 FIRE BUTTONS
Part # 50-9975-00.  It will be undermounted and recessed 1/4".  The shaft is 7/8" and dust washer is about 3".  I was thinking around 1 5/16" to 1 3/4". Hopefully someone has done the same for this stick but haven't come across any info yet thanks.

for a regular joystick, I'd go with 1 inch or 1-1/8 inch (same as standard buttons)
for this stick, I would think 1-1/2" should work.
but the size you're thinking should be fine as long as the dust washer covers it

If nobody has a better answer, you can calculate the needed hole diameter using a piece of scrap wood as thick as you will mount the stick deep. (dust washer resting at the same height it will when finally installed)

Position the scrap just a bit further away than the shaft will travel and screw the scrap to the joystick mount plate.

Push the handle and dust washer towards the scrap and trace the farthest reach of the washer.

Push the handle and dust washer away from the scrap and trace the farthest reach again.

The greatest distance between those traces (red) + the diameter of the shaft (green) + the desired amount of wiggle room will give you the diameter of hole to drill.   ;D

BTW, are you using the under mount (support blocks) mounting method?  These sticks gererate a lot of torque due to the length of the handle.

Also, you might want to consider upgrading from threaded inserts to tee-nuts for greater strength.   ;D
