Connecting 12V amp power to molex PC cable
« on: November 06, 2015, 12:37:12 pm »
Hi all
I'm new to the forum as I'm building my first arcade machine (you can see my progress here: https://paultownleyjones.wordpress.com/2015/10/06/how-to-build-an-arcade-machine/).  The power cable from the amplifier is simply a wire so needs to connect to the PC molex cable. I was going to simply connect it to the yellow 12V cable from the molex which I understand to be correct, but do I need to do anything about grounding?

Yep one of the amp power wires goes to the yellow and the other to the black (ground wire) of the Molex connector. THe power wire will either have 2 wires inside the casing or if it is only 1 internal wire will have metal threads running around the inside of the wire casing that will need to be bunched together which you use to create the ground wire. (example of this shown in attachment)

All good. I connected both wires and insulated with electrical tape. Here is the amp mounted to the rear of the monitor:
