I have a cockpit cab which isn't much more than an arch going over the driver's head, which attaches the monitor stand. I would like the underside of the arch to have a sci-fi glow to it.
The first attachment below is a side view of the arch.
The second attachment below is the view from the driver's seat of the underside of the front section of the arch.
The arch is 10 inches wide, and the sides are 2.5 inches tall. The top horizontal surface rests on top of the sides, so I have the full 2.5 inches to work with. What I was thinking of is to get some LED strips/tape/whatever-they-are attached to the under side of the top surface, and then have a drop of some kind of colored/frosted glass or plastic sheet under the LEDs, so the LEDs are sandwiched between this sheet and the existing top surface.
So I have a bunch of questions (keep in mind I have not worked with LEDs at all):
Is this feasible? What kind/brand of LED should I get? What material would work best as the light-diffusing (and I'm guessing that colored/tinted glass/plastic would diffuse the light so it doesn't look like you're sitting under a bunch of LED bulbs) panels? I wanted to go with blue light, but since the arch is already all blue, would white light make it look more lit-up?
One last consideration is that I want the front section (over the monitor) and the middle section (over the driver) both lit, but there is a gap between them where there is no top vertical surface (it's the open space at the top of the second picture), so whatever I use for the LEDs shouldn't be too problematic to wire together two non-contiguous sections. Thanks in advance,
