Tron opto board using OptiPac?? Eureka! It works!
« on: October 20, 2015, 12:56:26 pm »
Good afternoon,
I am trying to modify my original Tron opto board so I can use it with an Optipac. I know, I know it is a pain in the ass but I want to see if I can get it done. I have followed the instructions here http://gl.tter.org/spinnerhack/ to a 'T'. I applied power from the Optipac and the emitter is working(checked with a camera). I am a little confused where the mouse pickup is supposed to go as per the instructions? Does it need 5v on its own? Has anyone had any success doing this?  Not sure if I can apply the above hack using an Optipac or not. A little help would be most grateful. Cheers.

I tried gl.ttr's hack years ago on a Tron spinner. I couldn't get it working so I ordered a new optic pcb from fixemdude in B/S/T.  I can't find his thread now and his account is gone.

I used the new board in the spinner and it hooked up to the Optipac pretty easily.  The power comes from the mouse hack or Optipac so separate power isn't required.

Wow! After lots of trial and error...I finally got the Tron spinner to work using 'gl.ttrs' hack and an Optipac. The mouse pick up (5volts)that he shows in his instructions I wired to a 5vlt in on one of the trackball inputs. Everything else was pretty straight forward:

Tron board GRND to OPTIPAC Spinner 1 Grnd
Tron board 5Vt (used to power the emitters) to Optipac Spinner 1 5Vts
Tron board out 1 to Optipac Spinner X1
Tron board out 2 to Optipac Spinner X2

Tron board 'mouse pick up' to Optipac Trackball 1 5Vts.

Works like a charm.
