Bought a dedicated control panel, room for track ball?
« on: October 18, 2015, 10:07:18 pm »
I have been wanting a mame cabinet for at least fifteen years now.  I finally bought a dedicated control panel off craigslist for 50 dollars.  I like the control panel.  Nice and simple but I really want to add a trackball and possibly a spinner.  Do you think there is room for a trackball?

I don't know if you've got enough real estate beneath the control panel to install a 3" trackball, but it will definitely be difficult to actually use one with such a tight layout.  If a trackball and spinner are must-haves, I would seriously consider parting out that control panel and building from scratch.

So once again, we find that evil of the past seeps into the present like salad dressing through cheap wax paper, mixing memory and desire.

Even a 2 1/4" arcade trackball wouldn't fit in there.   :(

Add the mounting plate and it overlaps even worse.     :badmood:

On a more positive note, a spinner like the Turbo Twist 2 from GGG or the SpinTrak from Ultimarc would easily fit -- they have a pushbutton-sized footprint.    ;D

Well then a trackball will be out of question.  What about putting a spinner in the middle?  Would that be doable you think?

as Scott said, check out the Turbo Twist 2 from Groovy Game Gear.

It fits in the same sized hole as a standard button.
It has a small control board that you can mount on the under side on the cp.
you should have no problem fitting that in there
