Weird 2 player cocktail cabinet issue
« on: October 14, 2015, 06:36:09 pm »
Hi all.  Been working on a cocktail cabinet.  Finally have everything finished and have been enjoying it with the family.  This unit only has 25-30 games from the 80's.  A handful of the classics.

However on 2-3 games, specifically, Galaga, Dig Dug and Moon Patrol when the game flips to player 2 the screen is cut in half?

I am using mame 144 from a version I compiled years ago for a standup project....using Hyperspin as my frontend which works flawlessly on about 100 games so I am hopeful not to have to start from scratch (and re-educate myself on that process again  :dizzy:

In searching I found this was a know problem but was supposedly fixed for 144.

So...sorry so long...

Do you think its a ROM situation? MAME VERSION situation or what?  I see others brought it up in the past but do not really see what the solution was...

Any help and guidance is much appreciated!

For a guy that just dips in and out of the hobby every 3-4 years this forum is the  :timebomb: :timebomb: :timebomb:

If for whatever reason a certain game doesn't work right in the mame version you are using then you can simply install a second mame with just that game. Then add that to hyperspin as a second emulator. Galaga and Dig Dug at least should properly flip with mame .55 as that is the version I had on my old cocktail table. I only installed vertical games so I can't vouch for moon patrol.

Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

not too long ago, I posted something about this same issue.
I haven't had time to get into it and resolve it but hopefully there's some helpful info for you here.

Did you ever find any fix for this?  I believe my issue is related, but is constrained only to Moon Patrol.  Moon Patrol flips, but your "rover" is "off" by a couple of rover-lengths.  When you shoot, the shots fire up from about 1-2 rover-lengths behind the vehicle.  You can run over craters, then your rover crashes about 1-2 rover-lengths later.  I am using v164, but have tried a number of versions including the latest.  When googling the issue I see some notes in v148 that "Robbbert fixed cocktail mode in Moon Patrol", but it does not appear to be fixed.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

MAMETesters mentions an offset issue here that was fixed in 0.148. (screenshot related)

Just checked in 0.152 and things work fine with cocktail mode set by Dipswitch menu. (video flipping, P1 and P2 separate controls)

Also works fine in Cocktail view in the Video Options menu. (video mirrored, P1 and P2 same controls)

Fired three quick shots, hit pause, and checked with a straight-edge -- the shots are perfectly aligned with the gun for both P1 and P2.

Can you post screencaps showing the offset shots and late crash?

System details? (processor, video card, etc.)
