Illuminated pushbuttons
« on: October 04, 2015, 05:20:49 am »
For black, concave pushbuttons with RGB illuminated bezels and leaf switches, is this going to be my best option?

http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=73&products_id=408

$8.95 per button just seems pretty crazy. Is there any cheaper solution that maybe I'm not aware of? Buying the button and the bezel separately from two different places maybe?

Thanks!

That's the price for having the optional extras of leaf switch and RGB, I guess. Also, those buttons are convex, not concave.

GGG also makes a clear version of the CLASSX button that isn't shown online. you'd have to buy them plus a set of blacks to get black plungers, and then add the True-Leaf switches. quite a bit more expensive actually, but a better button.

Paradise Arcade sells a version of the IL buttons like this without the leaf. It what a couple of us have used on our cabs.

Did not even realize that... Good thing I didn't order!

Thanks for the info! I'll check out the ones at Paradise Arcade. In your opinion, are leaf switches worth the extra cost?

Subjective really. I like the feel of the leaf, but there's something to be said for the click of a microswitch. Depends on a number of factors.  And if we're not careful this thread will turn into a back and forth debate over both. Haha.

Just price them out and see what you think. One over the other really won't matter in the grand scheme of things when you're building a machine that plays such a wide variety of games.

Leafs are great if you're planning to play a bunch of games where you need rapid fire, like maybe Galaga or Track and Field. You're probably not going to like them for fighting games.

Thanks for the insight. I feel like I'd probably play fighting games more. Are they about the same with regards to durability/longevity?

I use the Rollies with no issue, but my first preference are the GGG leafs. Can't go wrong either way.

I might try the Rollies. Is there any reason why it would be a bad idea to get some stiffer microswitches for the Coin/Player buttons?

I don't see a good OR bad reason for doing so, so I wouldn't bother. I don't do coin buttons, though. Tokens all the way.
