Got myself a 213T for free!
« on: September 28, 2015, 03:38:39 pm »
Today I found someone nearby giving away a non-working Samsung Syncmaster 213T. I know a little about Samsung monitors and their bad capacitors in the power supply so I decided to get it and try to repair it. The woman who gave it away said that the monitor just died and went black. I got it this this evening, and as she said, the monitor was all black... until I switched on the power switch at the back...

I almost have a bad conscience about this. I just got myself a fully working 213T for free.  :dizzy:

Buahahaha!!!  Nah, keep it.  She had no problem giving it away instead of repairing it - no ethical crisis in my mind.

That's kind of how I got one of my TVs.  Guy said it died like 2 yrs ago and was taking up space in his garage.  It is one of those Sharp LCD TV's with the tuner in a stand alone box.  Got it home, looked at it closely, crud and gunk in the cable.  Cleaned it up with a toothbrush and some alcohol...  works like a charm!

I wouldn't worry -- If you hadn't taken it - it would have been thrown in the trash and would actually be broken by now -- so just be happy you were the one to get it. Those are very nice monitors ( I have the 214T (purchased from Arrow Direct for $30 - when they still had decent pricing ) - the 21.5" size is really nice for a 4:3 monitor and the swivel stand makes it easy to go from vertical to horizontal when gaming !!

On mine the power switch is right next to the power plug - so harder to see than that one on the back of the monitor - but once connected and using the power button on the front panel I can see where someone might forget the switch is there !!
